So i am getting the 128gb version of the Blade which will only be enough for a few programs and like a game or two.

I will need an external drive for my projects and my games.

I am currently using around 225gb but im not to sure how much more i would need for school.

I want a fast drive that is also decently slim.

Do most external hds have around the same read speeds?

Edit: No the speed is dependend on the drive being used, but mostly it depends on the interface being used.

What will be the difference between that drive and the ultra

And how about Seagate Backup Plus, It is the same price with a promo code but it is slimmer

The ultra comes with cloud backup, the regular doesn't.

Personally I don't trust Seagate, but that doesn't mean it's a bad drive, or that you shouldn't trust them.

I have a Seagate Backup Plus (2.5" Version).  Got it ~10 months ago.

It works.  Still works.

I can't tell you about the software; I just use it as mass storage.

When doing backups I often hit 1Gbps (~125 MB/s).  It's about as fast as I'd expect a 2.5" drive to go.

All in all, it's a great drive.  Light, portable, looks good, and...it's a hard drive.
