No, some brands of routers have been known to contain a hight amount of security flaws, which in the worst case may leave them vulnerable to outside attacks. They occasionally will pop up in the news.

D-link is a particularily bad culprit in that sense.

well OP says he/she will use ddwrt so it would be %99 fine (if DDWRT patches flaws in the software)

Well I use WPA2 which is good as far as I'm aware.

Unless you have a system that changes the password every week, then no. WPA2 is standard, unless the bring a new security method. I use WPA2 Enterprise which uses user authentication.

Is there a particular brand or model of wireless router that can give any security benefits over others. I'll probably also flash it with third party firmware such as DD-WRT. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks, GR412

DD-WRT does not necessarily solve all problems. The firmware, on for example the modem, may have vulnerabilities.

These things are however a bit more difficult to test for.

Ahh I see, I've never seen that option on my default ISP router.

You'll need DD-WRT also a domain controller with users.

I tried a nighthawk R7000 before but it wouldn't work with my connection. Would you say Asus is better than netgear?

I love the asus acxxu routers combined with the asus merlin firmware

very stable and lots of regular updates to

Please whatever you do turn off WPS. There is a massive security vulnerability with any wireless AP running WPS. Use WPA2/PSK if possible and turn off WPS.

Don't worry I know all about secure settings, I just want a potential better router than this virgin super hub rubbish.
