Hey I've been saving up for a GPU now and would like to upgrade to something pretty powerful that can handle the new gen games pretty well (ARK: Survival, Arma, etc.) my budget would be $300 CAD give or take $50 max.

Specs:

Mobo: Asus m5a97

CPU: AMD fx-6300

Current GPU: HIS Radeon 7770

Power supply has more than enough wattage and i've got 8gb ram so that should all be fine.

Thanks in advance!

(PS I was thinking R9 270x give me your thoughts)

At what resolution will you be playing at?

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600X            | Cooler: Deepcool AK400  | Motherboard: B550 Elite AX V2  | Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 1TB  |

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB   | GPU: MSI RTX 3060 Ti    | Case: NZXT H440 (Red/Black)    | PSU: EVGA 650W G2             |

An R9 380 would work well, but you might want to overclock your CPU to help alleviate the CPU bottleneck :) It's not the most ideal cpu, but with an OC you will still get a decent gaming experience!

its clocked at 3.5 ghz atm what do you think will be ideal?

As high as you can get it tbh, it will probably be ok but in the future an i3/i5 would be a lot better :D

I would but I don't know if I want to go with the XFX model, i'd rather go with ASUS or MSI and their prices are way higher for the 280x

I'd recommend you get this an FX 8370 now, and then later when you have the money, you can get something like an R9 290. I say CPU now, because you will see some benefit, as you want to play some games that will probably be CPU intensive. Also, if you got a better GPU now, it would be bottlenecked by the old 6300

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

1080p

Hmm... With a budget of $350 CAD (and your current CPU), you won't be able to max out newer games. The best you can get at that price would be a 960, or an R9 280. The recommended GPUs for 1080p gaming, though, are the 970 and the 390.
