Case:                                 Noctis 450                                                                                        $139

Monitor:                            Asus VG248QE 144Hz 24.0"                                                          $250

                                   Total:    $1539

(I tried and failed to keep it under $1500)

(I also have no idea how to shop for a power supply)

looks good

get a 280mm AiO instead, your case supports it

dont buy a WD black, its a waste of money

look for a cheaper drive like a WD blue or WD red, or maybe seagate

also you can save $100 by getting a xeon 1231v3 which is the same as that i7 except without integrated graphics or unlocked multiplier

NEW PC build: Blank Heaven   minimalist white and black PC     Old S340 build log "White Heaven"        The "LIGHTCANON" flashlight build log        Project AntiRoll (prototype)        Custom speaker project

At that point he won't need the Z97 board or aftermarket cooler either, people buy a Z97+4790K to overclock it lol

case is a little weird

but otherwise its a fine build

Good build, and if budget is your concern, why get a 140 dollar case?

It's a bit of a dumb decision, I know.  I would just hate to have my first build look like just another boring black box.

There are cheaper, yet elegant cases out there :) like the S340, H440, Define series from Fractal...

Yea, I'm not going to get into overclocking right away but I want to leave that option open.

The Noctis 450 doesn't have a door.

Unless you plan to SLI later on you can save some money on a lower wattage PSU.

Do you have any suggestions on how to choose a PSU?  The calculators I've seen don't seem to have my graphics card as an option.

And on that note, does anyone have any better suggestions for a graphics card for my set up for around the same price?  I always have the feeling that there's a better one out there.
