What GPU to get?!

Go to solution Solved by xAcid9,

I might be crazy but if I just save up a few more weeks I could just get a 780 but is it worth it haha

Please do so, a 770/7970 is not a significant upgrade to your 580.

Maybe you can reapply thermal paste and overclock the shiat out of your 580 while waiting.

So I have recently upgraded my cpu to the Intel i7 3770k and all I can say is money well spent! However I'm looking to buy a new suitable graphics card. I am looking for a card for 1080p gaming on a single monitor (1920x1080) My price range is around the £250-300 mark. People have recommended me buying a 660ti or 2 gtx 660tis to sli or getting a single 680, I even considered spending more for a gtx 770 but is that necessary for 1080p gaming? I'm now looking towards the gtx 670, it seems pretty decent for it's price range. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

My current specs!

Sharkoon T9 Case

I7 3770K @ 4.2ghz

GIGABYTE GA Z77X D3H

NVIDA GEFORCE GTX 580 (1.5GB) - Which gets hot as f***!!!

ZALMAN ZM750 HP (750W)

CORSHAIR XMS3 8GB (2X4GB) 1333MHZ DDR3 RAM - Upgrading to 16gb (2X8GB) 1600MHZ

1TB WD HDD (BLACK)

2x80gb HDDs RAID-0 (honestly forgot what they are, nothing special) Upgrading those to 2x 180gb Intel 520 SSD's RAID-0

Oh and I'm using Zalmans  cnps9900nt cpu cooler, not yet found the need to upgrade to water cooling yet.

Thanks guys!

Ok thanks guys, looks like AMD is the way to go here?

They're beating Nvidia in price to performance right now so yes.

An XFX 7970 is a great choice since it's almost neck to neck with the 770, has a lifetime warranty, is significantly cheaper, and has more vram so it's in a sense likely to more be more future-proof.

At the current price, the 7970 is going to be the best card you can get, and you get free games.  http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-xfx-radeon-hd-7970-double-dissipation-edition-5500mhz-gddr5-28nm-gpu-925mhz-2048-cores-2x-mdp-2x

Gtx 580 is falling VERY fast due to 1.5GB of Vram.  Granted it's 384 bit, it's bandwidth is still low compared to todays market.  Unless he runs low texture resolution and disables AA in every game, most newer DX11 games you'll see a nice increase.  I went from 20 FPS in Crysis 3 to about 40-50 going from a 480>HD 7950 OC'ed

Specs: Core I7-2600K @ 4.5GHz @ 1.35V, 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance Black 1600MHz CL9, Cooler Master Evo 212, MSI Z77 Mpower Motherboard, Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Vapor-X @ 1000/1400, Cooler Master HAF 932 Blue Edition w/ 3 Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 120MM fans (2 up top 1 in the bottom) replaced side panel with a window, and rear fan with a Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 140MM, Cooler Master GX 650 80+ Bronze PSU, Samsung DVD-RW, Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD, Seagate 750GB SATA III 7200RPM

While I'm at it, I said how I was upgrading my ram which I plan doing this week. Any suggestions for that also?
