Opinion on CPU Upgrade

Go to solution Solved by Sam Z Man,

There is no difference between a 4770K and a 4790K except thermals and power delivery, and getting a 4690K would be a downgrade.

Hello forum!

Quick Backstory as to why I am upgrading/swapping from an i7-4770k

Me and my girlfriend are building a PC for her brother. Instead of just buying parts, I figured I can just upgrade parts and give those to him.

Since I am giving my girlfriend's brother my CPU (i7-4770K) I am figuring out which CPU I should choose.

So my question is this:

Should I save a bit and get the 4690k or go big on the 4790K? I do stream from time to time and I am planning to do some LIGHT video editing.

Budget isn't a problem since my girlfriend is helping out with price so its just a matter of getting the most value. (USD)

My current specs (forgot to update via profile)

Corsair Hydro h110i GT

Asus maximus viii

16gb G.Skill Sniper

Antec 850W HCG (soon to be passed down)

GTX 980 (planning to SLI)

Thank you!

i5. cus light video editing

or a xeon

This.

GPU assisted encoding makes up for it anyway.

So for streaming it will perform just the same?

You would be better off keeping your 4770K and buying your girlfriend's brother a 4460

I definitely understand that, but I definitely don't want to pass up assisted upgrades so it's like killing two birds with one stone imo

AMD and Nvidia both have Streaming options as well as recording to HDD options.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Not that they're all too amazing.

Alright, that takes care of that then. I will not be upgrading. I wish I could mark multiple as solved but I get the idea.

Thanks guys!

What's the parts list for your girlfriends brothers build just wondering.
