High 980ti temps

blu4

at idle mines around 35c, under load.. well 88c seems to be the limit before it thermal throttles.

On a similar topic (sorry for hijack), does MSI afterburner temp limit over-ride inbuilt thermal throttles? Or are thermal throttles a physical result that isn't programmed in?

Okay, I've managed to figure out what was going on. The card were running so hot because they were not downclocking to the lowest speed. They should have been on 135Mhz but the top card was at 565Mhz and the second one on 1000Mhz- this was due to having "prefer maximum performance" in Nvidia control panel. After changing that do adaptive and doing a restart, they now hover at 135Mhz/145Mhz with 40C/33C :) I am a happy man now! This is the solution if you have the same problem.

That would explain it!  cheers mate

So this is with the default fan speed? Do you know what percentage of full speed the fan gets up to when under full load? Have you played with the fan curve at all?

Also what kind of case do you have?

The problem is solved. Read my previous post. The cards were not fully downclocking and running at 565mhz/1000mhz instead of 135mhz/135mhz.

fan speed under full load at default is 65% which isn't too audible.

I have mine set to 70% and its fairly loud, but keeps temps below 80c on days that aren't too hot.

my case I have a corsair air 540, I have 2 120mm intake fans on the front set to about 60% fan speed (stock fans). 2 120mm fans pulling air in through AIO rad at the top again at 60% speed, and a single 120mm exhaust fan.

I actually have my fans configured for silent operation. I wonder what happens if I do front fans at 70%.. They should be quiet enough and the cards won't ramp up that much.

my fans at 60% fan speed are near silent. I don't like being able to hear my PC when I don't have headphones on lol.

non of my fans are plugged into a fan header, but I've limited them via a speed controller tucked away in the psu compartment.

I'm due an upgrade at the end of the month (free of charge lol) so I'll probably treat myself to all new low noise fans and a Kraken g10 for my. 980ti make everything silent!
