I am on the prowl for a new notebook.  The use case for this notebook is going to be homework with VERY light mobile gaming (CS:GO is the only game it has to play, anything else is just cherries on top).  I already have a powerful desktop that I am 100% comfortable with for "real" gaming, I just am starting to find myself moving around a bunch lately and need something to take with me so I don't fall behind on school work.  I want something light weight, slim, and to have a fair amount of battery life.

Requirements:

- Thin, no larger than a Ethernet port.

- Great battery life.  At least 5 hours of actual use.

- At least up to date standards.  Open GL 5.0 capable, DX11 (at least), and so on.

- No smaller than 13.3 inches, no bigger than 16 inches.

Recommendations:

- AMD APU, I really prefer a AMD based system if at all possible.

- Touchscreen.  This almost was a requirement, but I will accept not having one if it is a ergonomically sounds machine.

- SSD based storage.  This was almost a requirement too, but I can upgrade this accordingly as necessary.

- Under $500.

I will be willing to spend up to $750 if its the perfect machine.  Currently there is only one machine that I feel like is what I am looking for.

The HP ENVY - 15Z is the only notebook I can find that fits my requirements.  I'd probably go ahead and outfit it with the AMD FX APU and call it a day.

If anyone can find something you think fits what I want better, let me know!

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Asus Zenbook UX305

Lenovo LaVie Z (overbudget)

keep in mind...for thin laptops..they are gonna be more expensive

I do like the Zenbook.  That is a legitimate option that I will consider.  And yes, the Lenovo LaVie Z is WAY overbudget and is not a option for me.

I heard the HP envy is a Hot potato, just so you know.

And since you want something on the go I don't recommend it.

You do understand that the HP ENVY is a whole line of products right?  It extends from 13.3 inch notebooks to 17.3 inch notebooks, convertibles, AMD A6 APU's all the way to Intel Core i7's.  To generalize that statement, is almost ignorant.  Im sure at least a couple of the ENVY series notebooks run hot.

Anyways, to a real statement, I am not concerned about heat output.

Still looking for any other suggestions.  Right now I am leaning still towards the HP ENVY 15z, but I still want a touchscreen.  If anyone has anything to offer, please do so.

I am been looking for a notebook too. I am currently really considering the Asus Zenbook UX303 series but don't know which model. If you get the LN or LB (coming soon) it comes with Nvidia GT graphics. It's 0.7" thick, 3 lbs (somewhere around that), 13.3", and 6-7 hrs use according to reviewers. But the only thing holding me back would be the color's are off and from rumors, the hinge breaks easy. idk it's kinda over budget for your price lol but u could get the LA series with the integrated intel 5500 graphics.

Yea, I dont need a powerhouse machine.  Its hard to find a respectiable thin notebook for not a lot of money.  I have been looking at the different Core M models out there, but I just dont like the underpowered graphics performance.  Im going to wait until the "Summer School" deals to come out and then Ill make a jump on it at that point.  Maybe there will be some new models.
