Hi guys, new to the forum but love all Linus' vids.

Ok I'll get to it. My current build is as listed below.

FX6300

Asus 990x sabertooth

Cool master seidon 120v AIO

Gigabyte R9 270x 2gb

8 gb gskill sniper 1866 ram

Evga 600w bronze

In a coolmaster mid tower.

I'm currently wanting more out of my system. I game a lot and have recently started folding@home.

Honestly my system runs good but I'd like to future proof it a bit more.

So I guess my question is should I stick with my current am3+ build and go for a 8 core cpu or should I start from scratch and go with a I7 build.

Money is tight seeing as I just bought a house so either way it will be a slow upgrade. But would I Benefit more from an 8 core amd and continue with a couple SSDs and maybe a 290x or 390x, or start over with an Intel build.

I'm looking for logical answers not fanboy Intel/amd answers.

P.S. If anyone knows of a super solid overclock guide for the 6300 please link because I have tried everyone I have found and nothing is stable enough. Always get a blue screen after 6-8 hours of game play.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You won't see a tangible difference between any of the FX CPUs as they can't utilise all of their cores. It would actually be a huge benefit to go with an i5 4460 and a cheap B85 motherboard :)

If you want @Faceman's wall of text as to why buying the AMD FX series is a bad buy then you can PM me (it's kinda long and I haven't found out how to copy-paste it without taking up nine miles of the internet.)

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

i7 All the way, AMD's CPUs are rather, strange and I would personally go with a full i7 Build and apparently the FXs aren't true 8 core processors or whatever.

CPU: Intel Core i7 5960X @4GHz cooled by a Corsair H110i GT | MBO: Asus X99 Sabertooth | RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 32GB DDR4 (4x8GB 2400MHz) | GPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 980 | SSD: Samsung SM951 M.2 SSD | HDD: 1TB Western Digital Black Drive | PSU: Corsair HX750i | Case: Corsair Obsidian 450D

if buying new, then go intel. but you may be better off and make a bigger impact on you FPS by upgrading your GPU.

do you have a ssd? if not get one first.

if money is tight go with i5 4690k and z97 anniversary

Z97 Anni has pretty mediocre MOFSETs from what I understand.

Use this guide to overclock your CPU so you can get the most out of it while you save up. I used it and it helped me a lot, it should be the same for your CPU and Motherboard.

Intel Core i7-5820K (4.4 GHz) | Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB  | 2x 360mm Custom Loop (Noctua iPPC) | ASRock X99 Extreme6 | Samsung 840 EVO 250GB | Fractal Design Define S | Corsair HX750 | Windows 10 | Corsair M65 RGB PRO | Corsair K70 RGB LUX (CherryMX Brown) | Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro & Creative Sound Blaster Z | Nexus 6P (32GB Aluminium) | Check out my setup: Project Kalte Here!

well no shit anyone would go with a I7 over a FX chip. considering a I7 starts at twice as much as a 8350, its not very much of a fair comparison

Well I mean he isn't wrong.... He's pointing out that an i7 costs more and performs better?

The fx 6300 would get out preformed by the i3 4160 in games that relie on single core performance, but should do better for streaming and multicore processes. You can easliy upgrade the i3 4160 to a i5 4460.

at that price you can't complain

Like 10 bucks more gets you... well more.... but you get a fair bit more for your money when you spend just a bit more.

Nah sometimes an i7 can get the same price tag as an FX6300 in Australia where our imbecile government takes a while to grow a brain.

1 and 2. Don't care, 3. ouch, 4. ouch 5. lies 6. America isn't exactly the greatest at government and Oregon's current governor (replacement for the great John Kitzhaber who had some sort of sex scandal and therefor had to leave :/) is some lady who made it damn near impossible for Google to get fiber here :/ Portland was supposed to get it soon...

....I wish, and thats my line pft.

was a few bucks off:P but I wish. Its funny how price differences are different in other countries. so when 2 people debate part choices, both may very well be right depending on the country they are in.

Well the 8350 gets beaten by i3s in many games soooooooo.....

yeah, never said it didnt. also depends on use case though. and I have no problem with that statement, as its a fair comparison price wise. people like to only compare a 8350 to a I7, a fx-6300 to a I5, and like a fx-4100 or whatever to a I3. people do that instead of direct price comparisons, and that bothers me a tad.

fair statement though.

+1

Best solution there is. especially if you want a decent overclock that does some good.

Best solution would be a locked i5, cheap H81 or B85 mobo and then a 390 and be good IMO
