Good Antivirus software

Nohemi

Not sure why people say that. I best to not wear my seatbelt because I know am a good driver and won't get into any accidents.

Firewall.

That's possibly one of the most asinine comparisons I've ever heard. Completely stupid.

Uh, how? An explanation would be nice.

You realize that even some of the largest, most popular websites have succumb to malware and viruses in the past?  Just because you don't go to bad websites or click suspicious links doesn't mean you are safe from viruses and malware.

Legit websites can become compromised. What do you do then with your brain? At that point, the brain can't do anything. The best you can do is predict what websites are clean - antivirus solutions nowadays usually scan websites actively for malware, so while they're not perfect...they're providing active protection, something your brain cannot do.

Would you use the same logic as with a seat belt in a car? "Oh, I'm a good driver. I don't need it. I have plenty of common sense and follow all laws."

I've never been on a highly popular website that has been compromised. Maybe all people need to do is stay off of the porn websites. I also think (and I may be wrong) that Chrome has a built in function to scan for malware, etc. LTT forums have given off the warning on Chrome before. Whether or not that is enough protection will be decided when and if I get a virus from a compromised website.

Also, you used the exact comparison that someone else on this thread said. It's kind of like comparing apples to oranges.

Anyways, I'm not getting into a stupid argument over this. I won't use antivirus until a website I visit often gives me one to warrant the download of such a program. I truly don't think there's a need for antivirus.

Then how about a comparison to vaccines? Herd immunity.
