Updating GPU

Hi guys!

 

I'm looking to update my GPU to perform better with future games, such as Fallout 4 etc, preferably would like to run

games like Shadow of Mordor, Dirty Bomb, Advanced Warfare, Arkham Knight (hey, one can hope for right?) at Ultra.

 

Currently I'm running a Geforce GTX 750 TI OC. I've been thinking about updating to Radeon R9 290x or Geforce GTX 970,

would really like to know what you guys think which one would be better in the long run. I live in Finland and wouldn't like to pay more than

450€ for a card, reference store www.jimms.fi 

 

Also thought about running a 290 OC'd, but that would porbably require some more updating (PSU, GPU Cooler etc.)

 

My computer setup: PSU XFX 550W, CPU FX-8320 @ 4,0GHz, RAM 8Gb HyperX fury 1600mhz.

G1 970 and depending on what brand of 750 TI that is, i might want it, mine has power problems..

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Why not 390? Is it more costly where you live over 970? :o

you might run into bottleneck issues with that 8320

390 is an interesting one, it's virtually within my budget costing ~50€ more than the 970.

Hadn't actually thought about that card before, is it worth paying the extra ~70€ in comparison with the 290?

290X and 390(5-10% better?) is about the same but 390 uses less power and has better cooler! :D

No regular 390 sadly...  :P

390X is better than 980 but USES MORE POWER! :o

I'd recommend the 970, but a 290x is good too

Thank you for the replies, I think I'm going to go with the 970 or 390 this time, depending on which one I can get cheaper :)

 

Looking forward to next year seeing if the new architechtures come to GPU's.

Hi guys! I finally got down to two GPU's: the 970 or the 390x. Two questions: is my psu sufficient (xfx 550w) and do is it overkill to go with the 8Gb memory if I'm doing only 1080p gaming at the moment?

As for the PSU, I'm not sure I don't have any experience with the 390x, but for the 970 it seems to be sufficient. The 8gb memory is overkill for 1080p. 4gb memory is more than enough for 1080p. (3.5gb is enough too..)
