My friend wants to build a new PC to move away from his PS4,

he only has £300 so I need it to be within that budget.

I'm trying to convince him to get one so I need it to be as good as possible,

so it must be able to play newer games if possible.

I was thinking AMD for the CPU as Intel processors will probably take up half the budget

CPU: FX-6300 GPU: Sapphire R9 380X MOBO: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB PSU: XFX XTR 550W CASE: Zalman Z11 Plus SSD: Samsung 840 Evo

17 years old, PC Enthusiast for 3. Be gentle with me, I'm only young.

Cant see newest games in that budget, definetely not where i live :/ Im guessing you werent thinking 60fps maxed out right?

Definitely not, was thinking medium settings at around 40 fps

Pretty good, might have to look into dedicated graphics though

Wait for skylake and an I3.. Big igpu improvements comming (Think it's september launch)

Also gives time to maybe stretch the budget.. I think £450 is about the minimum I'd build with.

That will give him a decent base he can at least expand from if he gets into it.

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

Not enough money in the budget, get him to save up and get a GPU in 6 months time or something or alternatively get a GPU on ebay

That's what I meant, sorry didn't explain. meant as in he'd have to look into dedicated graphics later on

Get him to save more. Parts at that range have higher price to performance.

Its should perform equal to or better than a console.

SSDs, I now can't live without them.

You can't but others can #FirstWorldProblems

That's what I meant, sorry didn't explain. meant as in he'd have to look into dedicated graphics later on

If he wants to build now, he can get this:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  (£138.31 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: MSI B85M-P33 V2 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (£39.64 @ Amazon UK)
Case: Zalman ZM-T4 MicroATX Mini Tower Case  (£19.98 @ Novatech)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  (£36.98 @ Scan.co.uk)
Total: £311.45
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-07-02 14:40 BST+0100

But he would have to use the integrated graphics until he gets a GPU which will be worse compared to being on a PS4. How about selling his PS4 to get a GPU?

But then when he gets a GPU, the CPU will then be a bottleneck...

Is that the next gen of CPU's coming out?

I've heard bits and pieces but I know nothing about it

So on the CPU side it will be incremental increase like last few releases from Intel, however With broadwell They significantly improved the igpu to where it's better than anything else available from either AMD or intel and Skylake is reported to have 50% more execution units than broadwell.

Should mean that any discrete card under 100GBP is defunct. (ex a 750 or similar / lower)

Obviously we cannot say for sure until it's released but it may well be worth the wait for someone that needs low to medium graphics requirements but may want to expand in the future.

That all said, if he needs it now, best bet is probably an AMD 860 with a card of choice.

http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/anton-shilov/intel-to-boost-graphics-performance-of-skylake-gpus-by-50-per-cent/

Try this build.. note that you can probably save a bit here and there by finding better offers on various sites. And get Windows from reddit.. legit copy for about $15~

You very limited in where you can go with it but it should kick a consoles ass.
