A bit of an unusual question

i am wondering if you can put a 2,0 GPU in a 3.0 PCI-E motherboard

 

I am NOT saying putting a 3.0 gpu in a 2.0 board

 

i am thinking of putting a GT 8800, into a MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition motherbaord, with an i7 4790k

Of course i am not putting the 8800 as my working gpu, but as a display gpu to let the real working one do its job on its own.

 

EDIT:  I don't even know if a GT 8800 has PCI 2.0, could be 1.0 as well

It'll work. It's 100% backwards compatible. There's still a lot of older network cards lying around, it'd be stupid if they didn't work anymore.
