I'm in the engineering section, its different but kinda the same in some ways lol. Not really though.

It may be hard to beat all the maths but in the end its worth it.

Yea it's something really original and everyone says its the job of the future. But I doubt it'll be easy. What I'm wondering is if we will learn any programming languages. Like for example C++ or i dunno because I'm completely clueless in this haha.

I think the best reason to join the military, is class mobility. The United States Military is the biggest reason that people are able to come from poor/lower class families and end up in the middle class. The military trains you, gives you money for an education afterwords and generally to get all that you only have to give ~4 years of service depending on what you do. People do acknowledge the risks, but joining the military does not support war. War would exist, be it a volunteer or a drafted army. Remember, all of our laws are enforced by guns, if you don't believe me, don't pay your taxes. When you don't pay your taxes, dodge the govt's phone calls. Soon enough you will see policemen, guns holstered at your doorstep.

That being said, joining the military, from a mental standpoint is something one MUST think deeply about. The suicide rate in the military is insanely high, depression runs rampant and by nature there is mob mentality. No offense to the individuals who are very intelligent in the military, but I would hardly call it an emporium of free thinking. The training is designed to break you down and build you back up, so that everyone thinks the same way. Your world view will be forever altered, and in many cases, tainted by your time spent in the military. When you join the military, you are not just making a career choice, you are ultimately deciding that that is the kind of man/woman you want to be. It is somewhat like joining a fraternity with the exception that you cannot leave until your time is served and if you do leave you will be imprisoned for the rest of your life. That isn't the case for many other institutions, such as university of trade school that encourages free thinking as its center stone.

I'll say this, the people in the military, for the most part are not what I would call the most tolerant of people. Differences between people are often maligned and not celebrated, and so if you have a mental disability, such as aspergers you will be made fun of and ridiculed at some point. Not that this is any different from the real world, of course, but at least in the real world you can get away from it.  My best friend killed himself 18 months after joining the navy, he was homosexual and someone found out and threatened to tell people. Don't ask don't tell was repealed a few months later. The military is making great strides to be more accepting, but you still have the larger problems of mob mentality. If this isn't something you can deal with, the military is not a place for you.

On the other hand, academia is FAR more accommodating of mental disorders. I have a colleague, in my graduate program, who has aspergers and while he does still have some trouble making friends, he is no doubt on schedule to get a masters degree in geology. So University and postgraduate work is something that you might consider.

anyway, you have a few years to think about it. good luck.

*Edit* Having pride in your country is not a good reason to join the military. There are many ways to show patriotism without joining the military. Putting your life at risk, for the sake of country when there is no existential threat is just propaganda.

I have a 2019 macbook pro with 64gb of ram and my gaming pc has been in the closet since 2018

Military is a good choice but your future may change. Don't just think you're going to do this and then end up being bored with it and doing it just because you told yourself you would. Do what you enjoy and you will do well in life.
