I am unable to find out what the max temperature is for an AMD Phenom II X3 P840 @ 1.9 GHz (Laptop CPU). Core temp was saying something along the lines of 100*C but others say Phenoms are maxing at 62*C. Prime 95 was able to get it to 70*C today (without it shutting down) when the guy at the store was stressing it to check.

EDIT: It has a 25W TDP and ran a bit over 1V on the core.

I have looked far and wide yet I was unable to see the light. I searched for longer than I'd like yet I might have discovered something not available on the internet and that is the max temperature for an AMD Phenom II X3 P840 (laptop model). If anyone knows, please shed some light because I am ready to throw in the towel. Thanks in advance and sorry for asking a 2nd time, my first thread was swept away in general discussion somewhere.

generally with really all laptops (and desktop CPU's) you don't want to exceed he 90 degrees celcius on load. Preferably under 60 degrees idle.

With laptops maybe even a bit lower.

How are your temps now, that you are worrying about it?

AMD is bad at keeping records. I would say in 60-70 range just like any other cpu. Max temp doesn't really matter...

Well, it's a laptop I plan on getting. The guy tried it out for me with Prime 95 running and for the 4-5 mins it was, it got to about 70*C (which should be good considering the torture test P95 is). I also noticed the fan didn't really get loud (which is admirable). If he had left it running I guess it would reach 80 pretty easily but after about 10-15 more mins at least (judging by the rate at which it was going). The laptop itself is a Compaq model (old and 2nd hand, hence why it's a good deal for the cash, sort of) .

Did you try downloading the user manual from the Laptop manufacturer or from the AMD product website?

Those temps should be fine

Thanks, I was scared honestly since while Desktop phenoms are generally supposed to stay bellow 65*C and they shut down at 90*C I was surprised when his Core Temp said max is 115*C but maybe since it's a laptop?
