Black is for pure speed. Blue is the balance between speed and efficiency. Green is more about efficiency than performance.

Blacks are 7200 RPM with the fastest access,  Veloceraptors are the 10000 RPM drives that are just plain fast, Greens are 5800 RPM (I think) But they are designed to save power and last a long time, blues are their cheapest drives also 7200 RPM but not nearly the same speed as a black.

Edit 1: raptors were designed to be a cheaper alternative to the SSD's when they were insanely expensive because they were new.

Edit 2: instead of blues, the cheaper Seagates 7200 RPM drives tend to perform better.

I think I'm going to go with the Blue since they are going to run at 7200 RPM and so does that Black :)

It's not all about the rpm.

Blacks perform better than the Blues with Greens being the worst since Blacks are high performance drives.

The performance difference isn't worth the price anyway imo. A seagate barracuda is ever so slightly faster than the Blues. Between the Blues and the Barracudas, get whichever is cheaper.

I agree with the Seagate Barracuda, I'm normally a Western Digital Guy, but with Seagate being ahead in the platter race, they have 1TB platters which are quite quick. I have one of them and average around 160 to 200MB/s. Pretty good for a platter drive.

Mine runs about the same, although I might need another soon, already running 600GB on it.

Side note: Love the profile GIF.

I would recommend a blue driver over the black drive, only because the ones I have can be quite noisy under load. If that doesn't matter get the black drive, otherwise I would recommend the blue and set AAM to performance (unless it's no longer supported).
