What temps are acceptable under 100% gpu load in games like crysis 3, 290x? Is 84C acceptable as a max temp @ 48% fan speed?

CPU-i5 4690k 4.4ghz @ 1.190V, MOBO-MSI z97 gaming 3, Cooler-hyper 212 evo, GPU- r9 290x asus directcuII (-37Mv), Storage-120gb v300(switching soon), 1tb caviar blue, CASE-Red/black h440, PSU-Antec TPC 650.

Easy answer is check your frame rates as your temps increase. If they tank at 48% fan speed, and 84 degrees then you might want to adjust your fan curve. If they're still good, then don't worry. We can quote temps for days, but if your gpu isn't thermal throttling then don't worry too much. It'll pull the plug way before the temp fries the GPU on a modern graphics card.

I have this cooler on my 290 and yes it runs quite hot. Max temp I hit is around 75-80, so I think 84 on a 290x is acceptable (although quite high).

Wasn't there the issue that Asus has used the same cooler as they've used on the 780, thus it doesn't fit properly?
