I would maybe not pay that much for windows,

There are better ways, free, or even cheap on things like G2a and onthers

otherwise a i5 would be a lot better than a i3

I have mentioned to him about g2a and other stuff like softwareswap on reddit (if that is even still around) but he doesn't want to go that route.

You used to have a R9 280 in there and you swapped it for a 750 ti ?

Keep the 280!

I did have a 280 but he asked if I could get the cost any lower to I had to make some cuts. I may add it back in and express to him how much better it is over the 750ti.

Here is what I would do for 500:

i3 with a cheaper mobo,

either a R9 280 or R9 270, as those can be found very cheap,

You are wasting 1/5 of the budget on windows, really ? If he can't be convinced, go to your local hardware shop with him and make them isntall it for cheaper.

Get windows from somewhere else and your options expand dramatically.  You can grab an i5 and a much nicer video card.

Please... Just don't. Don't reccomend 32GB SSDs, If you gonna get an SSD at least get a 128 one.

Uhh, no. I would not make him suffer with an AMD processor, 32gb ssd isn't even worth it, and hitachi hdd's aren't the best. With the case it doesn't even have usb 3.0 and cable management.

32 Gb is plenty for Windows 8 and a couple applications. At least he's getting an SSD in something this cheap. And AMD 860Ks are great for budget builds. Especially gaming budgets. At least this build has balance where it counts.
