and

I'm failing to see a massive performance boost jumping up CPUs tbh... unless there's something I'm missing???

Intel Pentium G3258 has the same CPU power of an AMD APU. That says a lot for a dual core chip. People seriously underestimate the performance of the G3258 tbh...

Now let's compare a GTX 750 ti to an AMD R9 270:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-750-ti-review,3750-9.html

In Battlefield 4 I'm seeing a potential for almost double the framerate and almost 60fps with 1920x1080 with Ultra settings and x2 MSAA.

So yeah... I'd definitely recommend GPU upgrade over CPU for a most cost-effective upgrade. That GTX 750 ti was built for home theatre PC's and upgrading older computers with recent hardware, it wasn't really built for high end graphics gaming in mind.

Yes you are missing the stuttering, inconsistent frame rates, and low FPS that can be experienced in the latest AAA CPU intensive games that can't be shown in a FPS benchmark. Ask any G3258 owner and they'll tell you the same.

That BF4 benchmark was the single player campaign, not multiplayer.

Fair enough, I posted my suggestions and you declined them. I'll go find a different thread to post in. Good day to thee.

Lol alright. If ya wanna fan-boy out? That's your choice. Get an NVIDIA GTX 760 then. It performs about the same as a AMD R9 270 but will cost you a little more. I'm all about cost-effective upgrades but up to you.

Nevermind my logic, buy an i5 see if I care since I'm just trying to help. :P

Sorry but I'm not trying to fanboy intel/nvidia products. You are looking at benchmarks of different people who have DIFFERENT needs. I need a new Processor because it stutters like hell, it freezes a lot of my games, and it isn't relevant enough for future AAA games. I can stress this enough : I am not looking for a new graphics card. Thank you for that i5 suggestion though, it was really encouraging.

Youtube my friend...

type in the processor you're curious about.. and your graphics card.. and a specific game if you wish or just the first 2 and you can see the real time fps for yourself.. (most people will have the fps counter on anyway) and you be the judge

I3 is plenty capable.. but its still a dual core with 4 threads.. which is plenty.. but if you really want to make this an upgrade..

I say go for an i5.

That's exactly what I did, and like I said, I only saw 5-10fps increase from an i5 compared to an i3. So I'm asking is what makes the i5 worth the $110 difference?

The fact that you can overclock it and it has two more cores.. If you like overclocking and you like the benefits of overclocking the i5 is for you.. if you like being content with the same speeds then the i3 is fine..

simple terms.. if you like overclocking and are going to overclock get the i5..

I have no experience with your motherboard.. but I would assume you could get atleast a mild overclock of 4ghz-4.1ghz

you will probably need a z97 board to get the 4.6-4.8ghz others get though.. then again you could always upgrade your mobo down the line and keep the i5 where as the i3 it would be pointless to upgrade the mobo and you will be stuck with that performance..

Decent frames in modern games is what I really need for now. So I think I'm going to get an i3. Thank you LTT!

The time has come for my old dual core chip to be upgraded. Sadly, most of the games I play stutter really bad in this chip (GTA V, Project CARS, and Mortal Kombat X). So I am looking for a better chip to replace my old platform. I am looking at an i3-4170 (~$90 in my place) and an i5-4690k(~$200). Is the i5's performance worth the $110 difference? (Do not suggest AMD) I see a 10fps increase in some benchmarks but that means I'm paying $11 for an FPS increase. Is it worth it? or should I just buy a new i3?

Honestly if you have gpu look into an xeon which is basically an i7 without igpu

And people say G3258 performs in gaming just as well as 5960X.

And worse noobies buy into that $hit.

The only real reason to get one is if you don't have a pc with a 1150 socket and want to upgrade in the next year or two here now, that's why I have one right now, it runs was 50 bucks vs 100 for an i3 and in a year I'll slap an xeon into my h81 mobo

Actually that was the case for the past year and a half. But then a lot of AAA games optimized their games in quad core or more cores, making the G3258 a lost cause.

Wait, I'm confused.. he wants to upgrade to a i5 because his pentium is too weak for the 750ti?

I mean if that's the case then an i3 is definitely fine...

My friend has a fx 4300 and even that doesn't bottleneck his 750ti in most games

No, it's because the games he plays need more than a dual core to run properly.

I'd go with the i5 :), 4690K or 4460/4440. it's probably the more pricey option but it's pretty much certain to be good enough for games.
