The 970 is a capable card for 1080p gaming, but it also depends on the frame rate you're trying to achieve and detail settings.

I've looked up some benchmarks and everything is fine with the 970 but my problem is that the 970 costs 350€ here and the 290x 4GB is more or less at the same price range 370€ while the 290x 8GB costs 430€.  :S

No use for 8GB vram at 1080p. 4GB is plentiful.

Is it still worth to get a Gtx970 or are there other GPU on the market which deliver a better price/performance?

The GPU is going to be used for 1080p gaming.

I would appreciate your advice.

The 970 is an amazing card for 1080p, i would highly recommend it.

The R9 390X costs more than the GTX 970 according to pcpartpicker. If he wants an amd card then the 290X is cheaper than the 390X.

Really ?

I thought the msi 8g one was the same as gtx 970 on amazon !!!!!
