How to use windows remote desktop over the internet

thekeemo
I thought it was a bit confusing so I made this guide to help people out.

Part 1:
1. go to my computer/this pc
2. right click and click on properties
3. remote settings
4. allow remote connections to this computer
5. ok

Part 2:
1. go to 192.168.0.1 in the browser
2. enter username and password
3. go to applications & gaming
4. go to port range forwarding
5. figure out the local ip of the system
5a. windows key + R
5b. enter ipconfig
5c. find the 192.168.0.XX ip (not the 192.168.0.1) it could be 192.168.1.1 or something else depending on the router
6. make a new entry and enter the local IP
7. choose a port as the start port that is 1 larger than the remote desktop port before it (so if 3389 and 3390 are currently in use so the next ones are 3391, 3392, etc)
8. set the end port to 3389
9. set it to both TCP and UDP
10. check enable
11. save

Part 3a (only if you want to connect via shortcut):
1. Right click on the desktop and choose create new shortcut
2. enter mstsc.exe /v:externalIP:Port
4. finish shortcut creation

Part 3b (only if you want to connect via the RDP tool):
1. Open the start menu
2. search for remote desktop connection
3. insert ExternalIP:Port

Part 4:

1. Enter username/password

2. connect

if that doesn't work check the user folder to see if the original username has been changed and use the original (the user name in the C:\Users\USERNAME_TO_USE
If the system doesnt have a password another step:
1. Start the Windows Registry editor (type regedit in the "Start > Run" dialog)
2. Navigate to: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] "LimitBlankPasswordUse"=dword:00000001
3. Change LimitBlankPasswordUse to 0 (zero) to enable the use of blank passwords, 1 to prevent blank passwords over the network.

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.
