Guys, I just tried putting together a.build from scratch and have a question, if I used the 8 pin connector meant for the gpu on the motherboards 8 pin slot meant for the cpu would that fry my system? I'm isn't an asrock x99 extreme4, i75820k 32 gb's 2400 kHz ram and a evga 750 80+bronze rated psu

It should have built in safeguards so it shouldn't happen, but there is always the possibility.

Try plugging everything in correctly and see how it goes.

And that's some prime ram you got the 2400KiloHertz, holy smokes

And yes, this is after I used the appropriate connector

Since this presumably is a new PSU, i would send it in under warranty (or 30day open purchase or something if your store has that) to get a new unit.

Just by all means Don't tell them how it happened!

It can happen that people get Bad units, so you either got a bad unit or it got fried under the first boot attempt.

Just let your store/warranty workshop believe it was a bad unit.

Working alongside Aftersales in a electronics store this is my best advice.

Does anyone know if micro center would help me diagnose? I only bought the cpu and mobo there

No dont do it because if you do they won't take a return if its dead, troubleshoot yourself and if it's dead return it and say it was dead on arrival.

It's just frustrating as I don't have other parts to swap out and test by lettuce of elimination

Yea this is why I have a PSU, a stick of DDR2, a stick of DDR3, a AMD and Nvidia GPU, that I Know for 100% sure they all work, just for the sake of troubleshooting.

That's exactly what I did, despite it saying vga on the chord. I feel like a compete moron.

The Asrock manual and board doesn't specify it as cpu power, it's called atx

But it's the 8 pin above the cpu

What do you guys think are the odds I also burned out the motherboard?

Thats the problem these days....Back in the day, we were nervous wrecks, because there were never any safe guards and shit just broke.

Exactly! Never sell old hardware! I still have a 8800GT that is hopeless in terms on any modern game what so ever, but it works perfectly, and is a great test GPU.

Plus, it has sentimental value!:P

Yea I have a geforce 210 and a Raydon HD 5570 best stuff for troubleshooting as you don't need any PSU connection.

Besides that I sell the shit out of old hardware.

Yeah...Just find a very stupid person and change the 1 to a seven, write an x after and sell it as a 270x! You can just convince them that Nvidia makes them as well :P:D

I actually am not an asshole so I test it to see that it works, then I sell it under exactly what it is.
