2 more days, then it's useless.

It's hard to say. With the rate that things change in the tech industry, it could last for a relatively short time, or it could last a long time.

If you're talking about just running games at any settings, it will last years and years.

a long time. A ps4 will still be running games by then but you gotta factor, in 6 years you'll be running everything still better then a console but it may not be at as good settings as you'd like. Dang GTX 680s are still running strong in some people's builds.

It has a lot to do with what is comfortable for you. A high end card now can still struggle with some tittles on max. If you demand max settings your going to find you need to upgrade sooner. My last card 7970 I got in late 2012 lasted me until 3 or so months ago when GTA 5 came out followed by the witcher. Before that however I was mainly playing games from 2012 and older so that 7970 was doing just fine.

Most games scale well these days. 2 to 3 years seems like a good run for most gamers/enthusiasts before they start thinking about a new card. The 980 will easily last that long however I would wait until AMD release, even if you are not interested in AMD price drops will surely follow for the 980 if indeed the early AMD benchmarks are right.

Do not get the 980 if you are buying it in some vein hope to "future proof" your pc, if gaming at 1080p a 970 or 290X would be a far better choice and cheaper. It would also last just as long, if gaming at higher resolutions then the 980 starts being a good buy.

what resolution?

1080p, it'll last you at least 2-3yr depending on AA level with high-ultra.

1440p & 4k, your probably already itching to upgrade.

idk bout that. 980 has half a GB more ram and 20% more performance when OC'd.  I'd say the 980 would last at least maybe a year longer than a 970.
