What do you reckon is a 1080p card right now (from both nvidia and AMD)

I would say the 970 and 290x....

1080p 60fps with 95% of the game on market right now *

@Minibois thanks for pointing that out xD

Added poll!

No budget? Titan X obviously.

But I think it's closer to GTX 960 and R9 280X.

I assume you mean 1080p60Hz?

Best 1080p cards are 295x2/Fury/Titan X

Definitely R9 290 for value.

280x and gtx 960

280x or 960. Anything else is no longer good value for just 1080p, although even a 270x or 270 can perform well at 1080p

7970(280X)

780

how about 1080p60fps with 95% of the games on market right now?

R9 290.

Maybe something like an GTX 780, but those are not made anymore and seem to be quite pricey... So you are better off going with GTX 970 if you want Nvidia

780/780 Ti if Nvidia isn't ruining Kepler cards.

7970/290

Both cards will be fine for 1080P Ultra anyway.

Grrr i feel like the card i've gotten like 41weeks ago (r9 290x) is becoming crap right now D:

(I GOT IT FOR LIKE 690SGD TOO) (before the release of 900 series D:)

290X is still very good, but it seems like the 970 performs better at 1080p (while the 290X seems to perform better at higher resolutions like 1440p and 4K).

If it's crap, you can still give it to me ;)

But why do you think it is terrible?

With cards like the 980ti out i feel like im losing out in the game

My card is having difficulties running games like crysis 3 and DAI at 1080p60fps @ max settings....

I usually hover around 40-55 fps in dragon age inquisition @ 1080p with a 700SGD card (im a student to boot so my income really is just my savings from my allowance)

Yeah.....

R9 290X should get 1080p60fps pretty easily in Crysis 3. 280X and GTX 960 get 1080p 55 fps or so. Do you have a lot of AA or something?

Or is it a CPU thing?

Not sure, only you can test out.

But the fps you are getting now seems like what you should get.

Just get the best possible card you can that fits your budget. Whether that's a 280x, 290x, 970, or 980. I'd still say a 980 because some of the new games can be demanding even at 1080p. If you can't afford a 980 then revert back to what I said and go with best possible.
