What happens to my bios fan control/fan curve settings if I install speedfan? Will they be overridden? How do I control if my fan settings should follow my bios settings or the Speedfan settings?

Cheers,

Ben

I'm fairly certain you already asked this. No, it doesn't change BIOS settings - it only overrides them.

I asked the same question regarding AI Suite 3. I thought this might be different as AI Suite 3 links with the BIOS I think.

Will my SpeedFan settings show in the Bios?

No. It only affects fans when the OS is running and does not apply settings to the CMOS chip.

They both use the information given from the motherboard's PWM fan connectors.  Your speedfan settings will not show in the bios.  The information in the bios is a completely separate from what you do in the operating system.

Only time when AI Suite directly controls BIOS is when you setup OC from it. With other brands, like MSI, the control center for fans is directly linked to BIOS controls. You can see if it does that by setting constant speed or easily recognizable curve and checking if same settings are in BIOS.

Thanks for clearing that up. So how does AI Suite III work with the Bios? How does the system know whether to use my bios fan settings or AI Suite III? Won't they conflict?

If AI Suite controls BIOS settings or they are linked, the settings will be same in both. If you change one, the other changes too. If AI Suite doesn't sync with BIOS, it overrides those settings while its running in windows.

And what about software such as SpeedFan? Will it just override the Bios once in Windows?

Yeah. But there are known issues if you have set premade profile for fans in BIOS. If you want to use software instead of BIOS, set all fan profiles to auto/default.
