Nightshade Red Raijintek Metis (Finished)

Hey I just wanted to introduce you to the build im gonna do for my friend.
He wanted a gaming pc that also can render some videos this is what i came up with.
I went with a red theme because he said that is his favorite color.
The name for this build is gonna be Nightshade after the bomb of RED 2

• GPU: EVGA GTX 980 a.c.x 2.0
• PSU: Silverstone SX500-LG
• MOBO: Gigabyte GA-H97N-WIFI
• RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Red 1866
• HDD: 1 TB WD Red (need those colors)
• SSD: 120 GB Samsung 850 Evo
• Fans: Cooler Master Jetflo 120 Red Led PWM
• Case: Raijintek Metis Window Red
• Cooler: Kraken X31

980ti??   Also why z97 board with a xeon, you could save on the board and maybe squeeze in that 980ti. Wi-fi built in is not an advantage, unless you really need it built in.

My only concern is the 120GB SSD. Having lived on (currently) a 128GB SSD, you (end user) are going to want more, at least 240GB at a minimum unless you can use 2 drives one devoted to programs that need the speed (like Premier, Vegas, or Resolve).

Well 980 is even more overpriced in europe than it is in us.

That is what he thinks now.... It will need an upgrade soon more than likely, unless he is installing everything to the hard drive, which would make the SSD next to useless.

120GB fills up nearly instantly if you are putting your programs on the SSD. If you are not putting teh program on teh SSD, you wasted your money on teh SSD.

Depending on teh editing program, it can eiuther add nothing, or the GPU will be much faster than a CPU ever could for much cheaper. That is assuming the program he is using has OpenCL or CUDA capability and that he is either realtime rendering, or renders often.

There is no need to be sorry. It is just how the drives work. If you are only running windows off the SSD, you are not going to get any benefit from the SSD investment. If you install your programs to the SSD, you are going to need about 240-500GB of SSD for most power users these days to have the OS and the programs. 120GB fills nearly instantly these days, especially with editing programs (adobe CC for example) where you have multiple 20+ GB programs sitting on the drive as well as the scratch disk space.

It will make a difference, just not enough to necesarily justify teh price increase (unless he is doing editing  professionally).

In that case, he will not see the performance difference between the cards. Depending on eth program he is using, you may be able to look at AMD cards also, a 290x should be a lot cheaper than a 980, and perform about the same (assuming he does not need cuda for anything).

That graphics card is way too long for that case. According to Raijintek website the max gpu length is 170mm.

 

Also it only has space for a single rear fan so it isn't ideal for a gaming pc imo.

you can put in a longer gpu when you use a sfx powersupply

its possible to use a 270 mm gpu.
