The whole point of a headset is to have a mic and listening device so idk what is wrong with your headset.

Depends. Are you plugging in the headphone plug, or the microphone plug?

Sounds like you have a 4-pole plug for your headset, while the computer itself requires two 3-pole plugs, one for headphones and another for mic. You need to get an adapter that splits the 4-pole into those two 3-poles and plug one in the green jack (output, headphones) and one in the pink jack (input, mic)
