Hi there guys!

My cousin asked me for a good gaming pc, and I thought there is no better place to ask than here ;D

How much and where

The budget is what is making it difficult for me to choose parts: we have about 500-600 Euro we can spend.

We both live in Italy, so we would like to buy from amazon.it if possible.

What does he want
My cousin asked for a good pc to play any new/upcoming game at max settings. Also he's used to use more programs at once...

His monitor
He has a good 1080p monitor, nothing more than that. He wants the best graphics he can squeeze at that res, tho.

Why is he upgrading?
Well, his computer is at least 5 years old. He has one of the first dual core processor, with 2Gb ddr2 ram and an nVidia GT220 graphic card.
What's worse, he uses windows 7 on that thing. Usually his avaiable memory is less than 25% :S

I made this part list, but I'd like some help to chose the best combination possible within that budget.

As you may notice, I did not include a case. He already has one that will do just fine.

What I am most unsure about is the processor (ofc that would change the mobo too). I have never used any AMD ones, and wonder if there is something worth looking for there.

CPU: Intel i7 4790k @4.00Ghz - Motherboard: ASRock Z97X Killer - RAM: HyperX Savage Kit 2 x 4 GB - GPU: Inno3D iChill Geforce GTX 970 Ultra - Case: NZXT Noctis 450 - Storage (1st): Samsung SSD 850 EVO 120GB - Storage (2nd): Seagate 2TB HDD - PSU: Evga Supernova 750 G2 80+ Gold

I would maybe check ebay ( if that's your kind of thing )

otherwise that's a nice build, or you could get an amd 6350 and mobo .

I would not use pcpartpicker for southern eu , check the prices directly on amazon / your local hardware dealer .

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.

Well it looks alright but unless you have an above average ambient temp, you won't really need the hyper 212 evo, the stock cooler does well on normal CPUs.

Also you link has the cpu with no price.

My computer runs on MSX, Its very hard to catch.

Nice build, just mobo is fairly expensive. And you do not need a cooler for i3. Your total is also messed up because processor has no price on pcpartpicker.

Looks very good. There are some points that you may want to consider.

  1. The B85 board should do the job, but for a better upgrade path to an unlocked processor, a Z97 board would be preferable. If he isn't interested in upgrading at all in the future, then that board will be just fine.
  2. The Hyper 212 EVO stands at 159mm tall, so you will have to check beforehand if it even fits in the case in question. I got a Hyper TX3 EVO instead which does a wonderful job of keeping my i5-4690K cool. Air coolers also don't wear out as they have no moving parts besides the fan, which can be replaced. The only reason you wouldn't get a tower air cooler is if you couldn't afford it or you couldn't fit it.
  3. The Corsair RAM, in the UK anyway, tends to carry a premium over other RAM. But what RAM you get and the speed of it doesn't make much of a difference to performance. I'd opt for a cheaper kit of Crucial Ballistix or G.Skill Ripjawz instead, just make sure it's from a reputable firm.
  4. That particular PSU doesn't have great reviews. The EVGA 650GS would be a much better option instead. Look on JonnyGuru for power supply reviews.

Other than that, it should do a fine job of driving 1080p 60fps. I wouldn't have thought the i3 would hold back the R9 280X in any situation.

Thank you all for your advices!

Indeed the cpu cooler isn't a must-have since I will not oc his processor, so i'll leave its stock one.

Taking a mobo that he could keep for future upgrades has a good point.

Also, I looked at the EVGA 650GS, but the price is just a bit over what he can spend.
Anyway, what he wanted was something that would perform well at 1080p.
Now, for the final ceck

CPU

Intel Core i3-4160 : 116E

Motherboard

ASRock Mod 1150 Z97 Pro4 : 94E

Ram Crucial Ballistix (2x4Gb kit) : 60E

GPU

AMD Radeon R9 280X 3GB Powercolor : 235E

PSU
Evga 650W Psu : 102E

Total of 607 euro. That should be it! :D
