RAM question

Just download some more ram (Jk).  Starcoaster is right, mixing ram capacities can have some unwanted results.

As long as you have each kit in the matching slots (kit 1 in slot 1-3, kit 2 in slots 2-4) you'll be fine. Running my Team Group Xtreem Dark 2x1GB 800Mhz kit with my Corsair XMS 1066 2GB and my Kingston HyperX 2GB 800MHz hasn't caused any problems yet.

Are you overclocking? If not then go for the 16GB kit. Though you should tell us what model your motherboard is so we can be sure.

No im not overclocking.. my mobo is gigabyte GA-EP43-S3L (it supports up to 16gb of ram)

Then go for it. I myself need to get a 16Gb kit for my P5Q Deluxe (already got one of the best CPU's for it-Xeon X5450), though I'd get DDR2 800 so I could run the Xeon at 3.6GHz. 8GB of RAM just doesn't seem to be enough any more for me.

i have 4gb and i'm doing video editing (after effects) and gaming.. you have a great cpu !! when i buy them do i need to change something in the bios ?

the capacity is bigger but that is a hell of a lot slower than your current RAM

once im not overclocking will it make any difference ? cpu-z tells me that my current ram runs at 400mhz for some reason

I don't so you should be fine. (And thanks, when gaming I have it running near the performance level of my i5 4440-just it uses nearly 120W of power instead of 29-31W).

You might need to manually set the RAM to 667MHz (or 1:1 FSB), could you post a screen shot of CPU-Z?

The FSB:DRAM should be 1:1, you definitely need to tweak your bios settings.

And you won't have any problems-I haven't had any yet (apart from my Xeon being as good as a Sandybridge i3 without an overclock)

NP. I hope you enjoy your computers extra life (I myself could use mine for another 5 years+ quite easily, but my i5 is just too big an improvement for me to stand it any more).

i will definitely do i will just buy more ram and later on a new gpu (because i want to play the new need for speed game) and my video editing life will be so much easier ! did you see the ebay link i posted with the 16gb ram ? it is 100% compatible right ?

I saw the link, and it should be. It didn't specify the density, and I've forgotten if high or low density RAM has compatibility issues with most motherboards  .

I honestly don't know. Its always hit and miss with both density so your taking a gamble either way.

Edit: Checking the RAM, the chips used seem to be the standard chips used on your current RAM so they should be fine. The RAM of the density that normally has issues has loads of smaller chips crammed on.

He told me that these sticks were not compatible with my system and he couldn't do anything.. Although I want to try it myself also.. Is it okay if I just take my old sticks out, put my new in and just start the system up ?

Its always worth a shot, you won't damage anything. And voltage shouldn't be a problem, since the motherboard will automatically run the RAM at the same speed and voltage as the slowest stick.
