Hi guys, I always have a dream PC in mind which I wish I could build but recently I realized that quad SLI is not totally worth it and that 2 way is the best. So my question is that is it possible to have double 2 way SLI in the same motherboard, like card 1 and 2 in 2 way as well as a 3rd and 4th one in another 2 way SLI.

2 980s in sli is probably the best option, as dx12 will take a while for mass adoption.

maybe he wants to fold on one pair and game on the other? But that wouldn't be ideal.

you dont need SLI for folding (or any compute)

That would do you no good, say you only had monitors plugged into the first card, then only the first and 2nd cards will be used as they are in sli, the 3rd and 4th will not as they are not part of the sli group thingy that 1 and 2 are in.

The only possible thing I could think of for this purpose would be using a set of light low power cards as daily drivers then using specific programs and new games on the full power set. Probably more effort than its worth though.

i could only see this be a "idea" if you plan to run one 4k monitor for one game, while watching 4k movies on another 4k screen, and even then i dont get it
