Hi everyone,

I recently built my very first pc and installed windows 7, after that i popped in the drivers disc from my msi motherboard and installed all the drivers,I then began doing windows updates. Once i completed all of the windows updates i download the latest drivers from the MSI website and my graphics driver. I started by installing the Killer Lan driver and rebooted, everything was going well... until i installed the usb 3.0 driver! I rebooted and my keyboard and mouse weren't working!! This only happened in the windows 7 login prompt, however it was working fine in the BIOS. I need some help to fix this problem, i tried plugging in another mouse and still nothing... I was thinking of re-installing drivers from a usb stick but i dont know how to go about doing that.. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!!

what usb port are you connecting your stuff to?

The usb 2.0 ports?

If that's the case, use the 3.0 ports.

Welcome @Youie!

You won't be able to use the 3.0 ports unless your keyboard and mouse has a USB3.0 connector which i doubt it does. Each motherboard has a dedicated mouse and keyboard port which is mostly USB 2.0 ports, you will need to reference your motherboard's manual for that, i think it is the two red ports under the PS/2 port next to the USB 2.0 ports on your motherboard.

Now if you are using these ports i recommend that you check your UEFI to see if USB ports are listed as partial initialization and if it is then you need to change that to full initialization.

EDIT:

You will also want to update your motherboard's UEFI if you are using the newer motherboard drivers. There is one UEFI update for Improved Genius Keyboard compatibility which i believe relates to your issue.

Hey man thanks for the reply! I was using the two red ports on my motherboard the whole time! until I installed Usb 3.0 they stopped working... Can you please elaborate on the partial initialization? I'm new to PC stuff.

Most motherboards has a default USB setting in the UEFI/BIOS as either Auto or partial initialization which means only when some thing is plugged in does it respond but there are some mice and motherboards that do not respond to that and needs full initialization which means then USB port, be it 2.0 or 3.0, is always on and delivers full power to the connector regardless if something is plugged in or not. There is also a option for turning the USB ports off. I can't say for sure what heading it is under on your motherboard as i am not in the UEFI, you will have to look for it.

Have you updated the motherboard's UEFI/BIOS to the latest version? If not do so and check if it help fix the problem.

This helps sometimes....have you simply unplugged the mouse and keyboard then putting them back in?
