Would I kill my PSU if I do this?

Fictionvl

EDIT: THANKS EVERYONE! I got it all hooked up and nice looking, dont mind the ugly motherboard and CPU cooler :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, I had in mind, since I have some LEDs laying around, and I have a spare sata to molex (or the other way around) connector, so I thought I would connect some wires into the + and - parts of the 12V LED strip that I have then connect the wires to the molex connector by cutting the sata port and connecting the wires into each other. (PICS UNDER HERE)

I'm thinking about lighting the insides of my case with the LEDs.

what I was worried about is, can this kill my power supply? or any components I have connected to it? I have a Gigabyte Greenmax 650w PSU

Thanks.

If you want to wire it- don't. adapters for this are so cheap that you can't justify not using one. Not sure about your warranty but resale price will be low if you cut wires. Get this instead:

Look up the specifications of Molex connectors. Find the 12 V and a ground cable and solder them to the correct contacts on the LED strip. It will be no problem, I've done thise before. Also works great with a 3-pin cable from an old fan. ;)

who cares...

For 12 V use the yellow cable for +12 V and the black one next to it for gnd

This is a signature.

very easy :) if you have that adaptor just solder it to the led strap and if you want it overkill just solder a little on off switch in between either the + wire and the leds or the leds and the ground

                                                                                      wow... pretty empty here...

One question, should I connect the positive or negative to the 12V wire?

You strip the adapter, not the power supply.

yes I know, I already have an adapter, shown in the pictures

If it's a 12 volt LED then you need the yellow one.

Not unless the psu kills you first . . .

It should be fine. It's basically making your own adapter, sine they wires going into both connections are the same.

if you want to connect that molex connector to the sata power cable simply match the colors
