Hey all, I was wondering if anyone knew why Blizzard made HoTS free to play? I remember it being like 50 bucks right?

People were buying into playing it early and they got some goodies with it.

 

It was going to be F2P to begin with.

Don't see why they wouldn't have made it free to play. (IMO it wouldn't be worth buying even if it was $5, I tried it and it kinda sucks.)

I would think it is because that mechanic works for MOBA since dota and lol run it.

The games revolve around players based

no players = no games

 

and when you already have someone doing it better with F2P system, you either follow and make it better one or sink into oblivion of unknown.

All other (and better let's be fair) games of this style are free, no one would ever think of buying a full price game.
