Need your help on picking the right parts to build a pc.

fwanta

Hi guys,

I am a firtst timer on building a pc and am planning to build a moderate gaming/video editting pc. I live in Braunschweig, Germany. I have a budget about €1200-1300 excluding a keyboard. To point a few things

1.I like corsair cases deseign like 200r or 450d which has a simple looking with lots of vent for airflow. Also , side panels not buldging out.

2.I have never played game over 60fps. Just to be an eye-candy, decent monitor would be great, especially for FPS games.

When it comes to games, I do not play high-demanding games. I mostly play league of legends,CS:GO and diablo 3. Diablo 3 would be the most demanding game I have ever played. However, I do want to leave enough breathing room, so I can use some programmes or play high demanding games without hickups.

This is the link to pcpp on the parts I have chosen. I plan to build it asap. I do mean asap. So any help or suggestions would be eternally appreciated.

Daummnnnn nice budget build. I would consider buying second hand cpu and mobo. These parts tend not to fail for a decade, if there is no overclocking or physical damage. You can find a second hand 3930k and mobo for a really good price especially when the 6 th generation intells rollout. 8 gb of ram will be insufficient in a year I think go for +10 gb's somehow

Also you may want to go with this PSU but it costs €10 more but it is better quality

I chose the corsair h80i with thoughts of reusing it when I buy a better cpu. Also, I thought xeon was more for wkor related than gaming.

Xeon is basicaly i7 but without integrated graphics. It will be good for games as any i5 or i7 except it costs a lot less than i7 and the only downside is that it cant be overclocked (it can but only trough BCLK which is not very recommended).

H80i is not very good CPU cooler. Makes sense to go for it only if you want your PC to look nice but your case doesent even have a window so I advise you to go for the air cooling which will perform better while being cheaper.

Also you said "gaming/video editting"

so Xeon makes a lot more sense than i5.

Video editting is more like a hobby.I trust on your choices,as you have way more knowledge on pc than I do. Just than to ask a few things. Is overclocking something recommended to those people(more towards me) who are not into extreme setting on gaming but still into decent enviroment? I do still care for in aesthetic-wise. So, when it come to your recommendation on cpu-cooler, would it not make my build some-what out of place(if you know what I mean, as a group of mobo, cpu and gpu)?

I would be scared to go for second-hand cpu. I would consider on mobo though. What would then fit into the Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor if I were to go with xeon? For now, I would just stay with 8gb due to budget limit.I do plan to upgrade to 16gb in the future but would 8gb affect much on pc performance?

Don't get EVGA NEX. They get recommended a lot here, but they aren't great. I know in Germany you can get Seasonic, XFX, Antec cheaply so look at one of those, or the EVGA B2/GS/G2.

i5 4670k - Z87X-UD3H - EVGA GTX 670 Sig 2 - Samsung 840 Evo 250GB - 8GB Avexir Core White 1600Mhz - Corsair 750D w/ RGB LED Mod & Remote Control - 2x SP120 - 3x Enermax Cluster - 2TB Seagate SSHD - Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 - SuperFlower Leadex Gold 750W

The GTX 970 is very power efficient (170W on load).  Unless you plan to buy 2 GTX 970s, you don't need 650W.  This system will run on a good 450W without issue.

Point taken. I would try to go with EVGA. Even though I am in a tight budget, won't be chickening out on PSU.

Yes,indeed. I do need a monitor. I have my eyes on asus and benq, as it has a high recommendation.I plan on staying between 150 and 200 on a monitor but any other better suggestions would be appreciated.

If you want EVGA, look at GS/G2/B2 then. The Seasonic I put in the build is also a very good unit

I am not tunel-visioned on EVGA PSU. I just want it to be a good psu as I dont want my pc to get screwed up with indecent power supply. I really do like your build. Just a few things I want to ask though. Would I need some extra fans for better cooling? Also, I can change the ram right? Nothing wrong with the ram you've chosen but it doesn't seem to fit with other parts' colour.

I love your suggestion with a monitor. I am heavily going towards your build. However, I will still try to optimise the build to upmost, since I plan on building it well,

even if it is my first run. I do not want to disappoint the community.

As a big fan of linustechtip group. I am geniunely supprised on how all of you people are interative and supportive. You guys have definitely spoiled me.

sounds pormising. I guess it will still hold about 2.5 years more, since you haven't overclocked it ?

The Seasonic isn't just good, it's great :)

RAM will be fine to change, don't worry about incompatibility for the most part.

The 200R comes with 2 fans I believe, which should be sufficient. You could add one more intake in the form of the Arctic F12 which are cheap and cheerful, and are good fans for the price.

The CPU will last at least 4 years if things keep progressing as they are. After that, you could drop in a used i7 and keep on going. People are still using first gen i7s just fine as we speak for gaming.

I would go for an air cooler like the Evo 212 if you´re not gonna overclock which i see no point of doing here.. And maybe trash de optical drive if you can? Then if you have the budget/time buy a 980ti second hand or whatever and that pc will last you so much longer.

Does the Evo 212 have a better cooling capability than the 'Raijintek cpu cooler'`? I just wanna have the optical drive as a safe measure. Do not want to go through such hassel when one is required. Unfortunately, I do not have the means to wait or even buy the 980ti. Would be nice but i will leave it for somewhere in my future plan.

The Themis is better than the 212 Evo. A 980Ti is wasted on 1080p. Stick to your guns, the 970 will monster 1080p in most-all cases.
