Hey!  First time poster, long-time lurker.

I built my first computer completely from scratch a week ago yesterday.

Specs right now:

MOBO : Sabertooth X99

CPU : i7 5820k

Heatsink : Noctua NH-D15

PSU : HX750i

RAM : G.Skill Ripjaws 4 3000

GPU : Radeon HD 6670 (I know it's below peasant GPU, I'm trying to hold out for the (new) AMD GPUs to see what they have  Note: it's the XFX 2GB version with Epona (I believe it is) RAM)

So when I got everything put together, I watched Tech Yes City's overclocking tutorial, and noted down everything he said as (in my words), a good starting point.  When I got into the UEFI Bios, I noticed that none of the options he said to change were in my Bios (that I could see).  So I decided to instead start with the motherboard's auto overclock.  It worked fine, except my GPU would crash pretty often (about every 20-30 minutes).  Monitoring my temperatures, they never went above 50c under load.  So I restarted, and wiped the overclock.

Did I lose the silicon lottery?

Could it just be because of my old GPU causing issues?

Would there be any way to check, aside from a new GPU?

Did I perhaps miss an important option or switch on the motherboard?

Any help is greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance for your time!

EDIT:  I forgot to include that I did check in the advanced mode.

you need to enter advanced UEFI to get the overclocking options

Thank you for your swift response!

I should have included that; I did go there.

I'll edit my post.

Edit:

I went into the Bios to get more precise things to help.

He recommended:

CPU Base Clock : 100Mhz

CPU Clock Ratio : 40

Uncore Ratio: 39

CPU VRIN: 1.8v

CPU VCORE: 1.11v

I located the base clock, clock ratio, and uncore ratio just fine, but as for voltages...

The options are CPU Core, CPU Cache, CPU System Agent, CPU Input Voltage.  I'm not sure what each of those corresponds to.  Also, it seems like I can set a minimum and maximum uncore ratio.  Do I want those to be the same (ie. both 39), or would I want them to be like 39 and 40?

Edit: I did some looking around (like I should have done from the start), and CPU VRIN is the CPU Input Voltage, while CPU VCORE is the CPU Core.  After playing with it for a bit, I have his recommended settings working perfectly stable.  I'm not sure why the Asus auto-overclock ended up causing instability.  I'll have to see how much further I can push it!

Very excited, and thank you for the response Enderman.

Time to go back to being a professional lurker.
