So I was looking for an R9 295x2. It's an expensive card so I was looking for a while to get one at a decent price, and because my fingers have been burned recently buying 2nd hand I decided it had to be new.

I see an advert on Ebay, through Scan_int. This is Scans ebay page. It showed a picture of the R9 295x2 OC edition alongside the metal case that they get shipped in. It was a great price so I ordered it.

When the card turned up it was in a cardboard case which I thought was odd so I emailed Scan about it. They said that they had used the wrong picture and that was that. I thought "Well the cards performance is not going to be changed because of a different box and left it at that.

Upon looking at the card through aida64 I noticed that it wasn't running at the OC speed, just the normal speed. (It's not that much of a difference but that is not the point) So it turns out that they have sent me the standard card instead of the OC card. I sent another mail expecting apologies and a replacement but get told that they cant get the OC card and all they will do is give me a refund for the card that I purchased. BTW they were still advertising the OC card at the same price although the picture was now the cardboard box instead of the metal case until last night when I pointed it out to them.

They know that I cannot get the card, especially the OC edition, for that price anywhere else so I am stuck.

I feel lied to and mis-sold, but dont want to lose this card as I wont get it anywhere else any cheaper.

Scan Computers have lost me as a customer now, plus I have vented about it a lot through my social media outlets.

Sorry for the rant but I am seething.

So you didn't want to buy second hand so you went to ebay.

Is it that hard to overclock it yourself nope.

You can buy new from eBay and if you buy an oc card you expect an oc, not stock speeds, that's why you paid more for it

Hey there. You are looking mighty fine today, have my virtual cookie!

SNIP.

Surprised you bought off Ebay when you were scared of being burned second hand, why not just order directly from the store?

Besides they offered a refund, you can't complain, sure they should not have advertised the card incorrectly, but they realised teir mistake and have tried to rectify the issue so  I would still call that good customer service

as you say, still a good card for the price

They haven't tried to rectify the problem, they have lied to me and then tried to get themselves off the hook. This is not the same.

E2A They did not realise their mistake, I pointed it out to them, then pointed out that they were still advertising it on their site. Didn't even get a thankyou for that.

They cannot invent a card they do not have... giving your your money back puts you right back to square one hence fixing the issue that you paid for a product they didnt send you

I understand that they cannot give me a card that they dont have. The fact that they lied about it is the main fault.  I dont want to be at square one. That does not fix the issue, it just lets them off the hook. Now that I have ranted about it over facebook and on twitter directly at them they have come back with an offer of a small refund (less than £20) so I get it for the price that they pay for it. If they had offered that in the first place it probably would not have gotten this far. I will probably accept this offer as it seems about as reasonable as I can expect.

yeah that seems reasonable, sure it sucks they lied (assuming it was not a genuine mistake) but at least they are doing stuff to keep you happy

they didnt just go "well fuck off we have your money" which is good in my opinion that they are trying to keep you happy

That's not good customer service, that's bare minimum "legal" customer service.

Using the wrong image and then sending the wrong card is sloppy and causes an unreasonable amount of inconvenience.

The only way you could possibly fuck this up even more is by taking two weeks to respond to an email.

I understand completely why he's mad, if I had to go through all this hassle and then return it because the eBay page manager couldn't get his shit together I wouldn't be too pleased either.

If anything, they resolved the issue, it was not rectified.

Fortunately for OP, eBay is a pretty decent place to buy things and not get burned contrary to other posts. He could pull his payment if it were actually that bad.

SNIP

Yes it was sloppy, but it is not unbeknown for companies to make mistakes such as wrong item listings.. it shouldn't happen and I would be pissed off myself

All I was saying is.. in this particular circumstance the company did what they could to help and did not just ignore the issue, since they cannot "fix" the issue in question, they went the only route they could and offered money back or compensation

Shit happens man I worked in retail for 8 years, sometimes you fucked up, gave somebody the wrong product or incorrectly described something, companies are not robots, somebody somewhere is involved and mistakes are made

Heck we sometimes had the odd product description completely wrong, luckily most of us were pretty knowledgeable and fed it back and had the tickets changed

Hell in my current job there a customer ordered a brand new BMW and the sales person got the spec wrong, like 3 months later the car arrived and it was the wrong trim, it happens, the customer was annoyed but he was given a replacment car and discount and has been happy ever since - mistakes happen

I guess I see it differently, knowing what its like on the other side of the glass - intentional miss selling? I would rip them to pieces... an accidental product spec listing.. meh it happens

Just saying
