I am planning on upgrading my cpu(AMD 6300) and GPU(AMD 7850) to a i7 4790k and a  GTX 980 (ti)

I only have around $200 so I was wondering if I should pick up a Corsair 540 for $100 and get a CPU cooler for around $50.  But the CPU cooler isn't something I need,  but it would allow me to overclock my stock clocked AMD 6300.

Should I just buy the case and just save the money for a new motherboard and cpu,  or should I buy the case and a cpu cooler and save for a longer time for the motherboard and cpu cooler.

what motherboard you planning to get? the cpu is more than fine. i say get a case and a motherboard. so you have like 100 on a good motherboard, but it might not get you far.

buy the cooler, as you can use it with the I7 down the road.

save the rest for the gpu. yeah, it will bottleneck with the cpu, but a fx6300+980 will be better then a I7+7850, then after that save for the mobo+cpu. after you get the perfomance, then go for the asthetics.

I feel it's more important to have a good cpu/board before a good case/cooler.  Though it depends on how you feel about the 6300.  Getting a nice cooler (I would go air at $50) that you could carry over to a new system would also work.

why? the new motherboard will just be sitting not doing anything to help him perfomance wise until he gets the I7.

I was planning on getting one of the z97 motherboards such as the MSI Z97 gaming but what is the point of getting a motherboard and not have a cpu for it?

What about the Corsair H55?  I would really have $180 after buying the case so I could spend $80 on a aftermarket CPU cooler if it is really worth it.

(Corsair Air 540 is $120 with $20 rebate)

oh, i thought the i7 was either already purchased or wasn't part of the 200 you plan to spend.

I have two 120mm aio liquid coolers.  I don't like them compared to a comparably priced air cooler.  They're loud.

@FineVisionz

If you have $200 and you haven't bought anything yet:

Either buy Mobo+CPU at once (which isn't possible because of the budget)

or buy the case / cooler (if you really want a new one)

I wouldn't suggest buying Mobo now and CPU later because you can't use them separately. The best you can do is to save money until you have enough for CPU+Mobo or GPU or both.

I need a new case to fit the GPU I am planning to get (GTX 980)  With my current case I can only fit a GPU with a max length of 10.5 in

In that case just save until you can buy it at once, prices will drop so you will either buy these parts cheaper or you will be able to buy better parts for that price.

I know it's hard to wait when you are on the hype train and you already watched every video of every pc part you want to buy, but you have to resist! :D
