I would like to begin my journey into the pc world with building my first pc. I have done lots of research and still feel like a huge ameture and would like some guidance.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZZpvQ7

So far this is what I came up with. It is over my budget of $700, the gpu is major overkill but I felt it was a really good bang for the buck, and I picked the first case that cane up.

I will probably end up using a lesser graphics card like the 280x or 280 and maybe a different cpu. I would like to stay with the amd side though with the higher cores.

This pc will mainly be used for gaming and gaming related things.

I would very much like your input.

Replace CPU with i3/i5 and h81 motherboard (Remove aftermarket cooler). You're about to get spammed with people saying that

Buy this. Cheaper, better. Also you can get a 120gb 850 EVO SSD for like $70 and it will cost about the same as your other build, but the i5-4460 performs a heck of a lot better

If you must go with an AMD CPU though what you had is fine

Nude Fist 1: i5-4590-ASRock h97 Anniversary-16gb Samsung 1333mhz-MSI GTX 970-Corsair 300r-Seagate HDD(s)-EVGA SuperNOVA 750b2

Name comes from anagramed sticker for "TUF Inside" (A sticker that came with my original ASUS motherboard)

Its descent, but 100% of people will say, get an i3. So yeah, get an i3/i5 for gaming, its just not about more cores, its about the speed of each individual core.

Ok so I have posted a couple builds and I think I'm getting close. Hopefully this is a decent build for a gamer looking for good performance at around $700. I went with the r9 290 because it was a really good price for overkill so why the hell not.

Please give imput on this build and any recommendations would be awesome!

You had an article with almost the same build earlier. Yes this build,is great. Don't expect much more at $700 but you could easily play any newer fame at 1080p med-Max settings.

Also any case recommendations would be awesome and I don't need an aftermarket cooler for cpu correct?

The GPU comes with a stock cooler which should be fine, also case is more personal preference on looks but you should check out some fractal and nzxt cases.

Yours Sincerely,

The Beast,

Sean Mullen

Anything with good airflow and can have atleast 2 SSDs and 3 HDDS with USB 3.0 ect ect.. Is good. Windowed is a preference and colors and stuff are preference.

I like the general parts of your build, i5 + 290 is an extremely strong combination for 1080p and pretty good for 1440p too. It's unbeatable in this price range. But I think your build can be further optimized: this one I'm suggesting costs about a dollar more and has

1. A better R9 290. The Tri-X is the coolest and possibly quietest 290 on the market. It's better than the XFX one. And it comes with a free 8GB stick of DDR 1866 RAM. This is as hot a deal as I have seen in a long time. If you have the money I would order this tonight, who knows when the promotion will end? You get a top notch 290 and a $50 stick of RAM with it.

2. A better CPU. This i5-4590 turbos on all cores 300 MHz higher than the i5-4460, which will matter in CPU bound games like GTA V.

3. I put an H97 board instead of a Z87. You have a locked CPU, so no reason to buy a Z series board. Furthermore, there is no guarantee the BIOS you get on a Z87 board will be new enough to support a Haswell Refresh CPU such as the i5-4460, or what I suggested, the i5-4590.

4. A better case with better cooling. I think it also looks fantastic, it has a lot of room inside, it has a power supply shroud to hide cables, it has good room for cable management behind the motherboard tray, it has dust filters on the front intake and PSU, and you can put two 140mm intake fans to ensure your GPU is getting lots of cool air. The 3.5 inch drives are mounted in the bottom and there are no 5.25 inch bays, so you have nothing blocking the flow of air to your GPU. Of course that means you can't mount a DVD drive, but do you actually use one nowadays? I don't, I'd rather have the open space in the case. You can also mount two SSDs. See Linus' review of the case that I posted after the build.

5. A 2TB drive instead of a 1TB one. Trust me, 1TB fills up really quickly in the day of 60 GB game installs. And WD Blacks can die too. In fact, I have had two of them die on me before they were 3 years old.

6. Your power supply is right on the money. $49.99 for this is a steal, JohnnyGURU gave this a 9/10 score so it's a really high quality unit.

I put the price of the RAM stick at $0.00 since it comes with the GPU when you get it from newegg.
