Hi guys after watching the more recent WAN show's and seeing the pairs of Razer Kraken Pros that Linus and Slick have been using i've been considering buying a new gaming headset.

I know that on the most recent WAN show someone asked what would be the best headset for gaming and both Linus and Slick replied with that they recommend buying a pair of decent Headphones and a mic.

My problem with this is that I have very little desk space therefore i cannot fit a mic on my desk, so that's why I need a headset with a built in mic before anybody recommends I do as Linus and Slick recommended.

I've considered the Kraken Pros but some are saying that the sound quality isn't that good, could anybody verify this? Also if this is true what would you guys recommend that I buy instead? My budget would be anything upto £100, i've been using Turtle Beach for roughly 3 years and currently have a pair of X12s just to throw that out there :)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you have a dedicated soundcard? if yes, SteelSeries 7H. If  no, Logitech 430.

To address the desk space. You can always get a clip-mic or a Modmic.

you don't need a full desk mic.

a mod mic or a zalman clip on would work fine and take up no desk space.

Will work for electronic components and parts

Go for the Sennheiser HD 518 or the Shure SRH440 with the Zalman clip mic for less than 90£.

Hope it helped!

my thoughts are, they are terrible, and a separate headphone + mic combo will be better.

and +1 for the HD558 and srh440.

Will work for electronic components and parts

having used turtle beaches in the past..... ANYTHING will be an upgrade from turtle beach even shitty ass headsets made by gaming companies and their marketing departments.

I am glad to hear linus and slick finally backing away from headset recommendations and awkwardly touting headphone + mic over headset.

Would just buying a dedicated sound card make a huge improvement to my turtle beaches?

I trust you are familiar with the concept of bottlenecks

high end cpu bottlenecked by a shitty ass old GPU. well think of this as the audio bottleneck and the shitty ass old piece of shit tech is the turtle beach.  I wish I could travel back in time and smack myself for buying them in the past.

Seeing as you've used turtle beaches in the past what headphones/ headset did you move to from them? What do you have now?

before the turtle beaches I went through a series of cheap clip on/behind the neck headphones that broke often but my fav of the bunch was the sony mdr g54 which I totally forgot I had stuck in a shoebox full of old gadgets wires and tech. (listening to them now and am wishing I could travel back in time for loving these things as well.)

went to turtle beach x11 and x31 and a sony mdr rf925r which I still have as well and another cheaper sony around ear full sized one

I just about had it with cheap headsets and as a last ditch effort I bought the corsair vengeance 2000 which was only released a few months prior to me buying. I got fooled by the 7.1 label and thought it would be the final audio solution I would ever need.

frankly they are pretty fucking awesome. I was always a cynic of people who paid over a hundred dollars for headphones (till then I paid max $60 for headphones) and after hearing the corsair I finally had a sense of what higher quality headphones are. I became interested in what good quality headphones were out there and thought I'd buy the ath-M50 as my only dip into mid-fi/hi-fi

well after buying the M50 and loving the shit out of it I I couldn't stop and got the ath ad700 followed by the beyerdynamic dt770 and the ath-ws55

my most used one is oddly the corsair vengeance 2000 followed by the ad700 then the dt770 and the ath-ws55 when I go out of the house.

I'm always moving around and hardly sit still for long. being able to listen to the livestream or audiobook on my computer while doing other shit around the house is to me priceless.

Thanks for that big paragraph! I completely forgot about the corsair vengeance 2000s to be honest, and they look so damn nice, i may have to consider buying a pair of them for myself! Like you said about my turtle beaches being an audio "bottleneck" would the corsair vengeance 2000s be the same? Thanks for the help so far!

my past thoughts on the corsair vengeance

they were the fist device I had that "Wowed" me and even now despite having the dt770 the bassiest of the beyerdynamics the corsair still puts a smile on my face on certain songs. don't get me wrong their mids are crazy veiled and the soundstage is very vague but being wireless is such the convenience and especially not losing touch with what is going on in your computer be it a game or a podcast/livestream
