Hey guys! So, I have a problem. I want a new system, but I'm not sure what to get: a laptop, or a desktop. Currently, I have a desktop, but I want to build a new system from scratch. Now, I'm going to be gaming on it, and I'll be going out and about maybe for about a couple weeks-2 months(at most) a year(overall). Is it worth buying a laptop, or are desktops still the reigning king for me? I already know most of the differences between the 2, like desktops give you better performance for the same money on a laptop because laptops have under clocked gpus ad such. So, what should I get. ANd, just in case you need this info, I have $1300 to spend, and I probably won't get this money for maybe 3 years.

Desktop for performance, laptop if you need something portable.

EDIT: also "building a gaming laptop" means buying a custom one from a site and overpaying.

Look into the Alienware new gaming laptops I know they get a lot of flak but it might be the one for you its a laptop when you need it ,but allows you to use a desktop card if you buy the amplifier (you can buy it later on)

personally I got the Area 51 free from Dell & I love it would have spent 3500$ on it otherwise but since I got it for free I used the money to buy [not all of it 2400$] on this years Razer Blade with 970m hope that helps - Engineering Major ;D

If you have $1000 budget, you can get $800 desktop and $200 used laptop/tabled. Honestly, if you don't travel every/every other week, need for really good gaming/power laptop isn't that high. You possible only need something capable for web browsing, light gaming and media use. Phone imo has too little screen for that.
