See my parents believe in repeating something till it's burned into your brain. It worked but it's too inefficient compared to solving questions with them. ex: multiplication tables 

Thats a very indian belief (xD same story with my mom :P)  

True learning is when you can teach someone else what you learned imo.

Something like that is important. As is grammar and vocabulary. My mom, to this day, corrects her employers spelling and grammar, religiously. She corrects my grammar as well as my sisters. Whether spoken or written. Some things do need to be memorized. But some things do not. They need to be comprehended instead of memorized.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

A part of me misses getting kicked out of English class for reading books five times thicker than the rest of the class, while they struggled to get through lord of the flies in 9 weeks (took me two days. And I hated that book. Complete rubbish).

I don't get kicked out but my teacher took my book which was GoT and she just said I don't even want to know and gave it back disgusted with me :D

Science (earth science and biology) always came easy to me. Mainly because I spent most of my TV watching time, watching discovery channel (back when it was more educational and less neck-beardy).

 

I don't get kicked out but my teacher took my book which was GoT and she just said I don't even want to know and gave it back disgusted :D

Oh I'd have ripped her a new one for that. "what, too long for you?" I'm a speed reader. Just saying we seem quite similar, I don't have ADD/ADHD, but i do have some sort of attention problem of some sort. (or maybe just how my mind works) I usually process information very quickly (or too quickly) but when it comes to something that really attracts me like a book or a game, or even a hobby; ill be drawn in for hours. I used to watch a crap load of Discover Channel, then it just started to suck and become reality-esque shows :P

I've always hated math, never seen a point in requiring more than basic arithmetic, mainly because I see no point in knowing complex algebra and further forms of math, when we have calculators. And to preempt the people who respond "WHAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO A CALCULATOR!?" ......why would I need ridiculously complex algebra in a situation where I don't have access to a calculator.....Not to mention that calculators are often used to CHECK the work of humans. 

Math should be about simple yet difficult math problems like the Cheryl's Birthday problem ... We should make student learn more about the Math of life ...

 

If anyone is interested in Math and other subjects , they should go and learn themselves with the help from Teachers , if they have an interest in the subject , the teacher should encourage them to develope it more ... Not trying to make the student into a walking Encyclopedia ... 

 

It's should still be mandatory to teach everything to student to see how they would react to that subject and classify them ... But everytime I think of that ... I remember Harry Potter and Divergent on how they classify people and saying : " You belong in this group... " so I'm contradicting myself real hard ... 

... Life is a game and the checkpoints are your birthday , you will face challenges where you may not get rewarded afterwords but those are the challenges that help you improve yourself . Always live for tomorrow because you may never know when your game will be over ... I'm totally not going insane in anyway , shape or form ... I just have broken English and an open mind ...

That's what I hate. I start playing a game and I somehow memorize every statistic about everything or anything I find interesting but when it's something boring (school) I hardly put any effort. It's still more effort than a lot of people but not enough. There's a bunch of people that have lots of potential but waste it by doing nothing and eating too much sugar in my grade. (me)

That sounds like ADD to me. Do you have trouble focusing on or remembering things you are not interested in? While that might seem logical and or common sense to me, it apparently is one of the symptoms. My dad has never understood the disorder, he just says "why can't you just make yourself focus", and the only response I've ever had is "the harder I try to focus on it, the less I care, and the more I think about how little I care". It's not a conscious thing, it just...happens.

Indeed it should. It took me a while to realize that I already knew all the algebra I would need to know to get through life. It's really a few simple idea's.

Edit: My aunt is a teacher, and parents ARE a problem. At least in the US. They don't care, don't know, and aren't willing to be an active part of a childs education. Which is why she is trying to leave the education field. Because her students are "literally doomed" as she puts it, to failure. Because their parents just dont give a single fuck.

yes! I have a 11 page paper due on Thursday, a huge Latin assignment due tomorrow, and music Finals by the end of the week. Not one close to being done :) and combined ADHD ftw! All my teachers snap at me to wake me up from my book and they can't shut me up when I start talking

I can actually remember quite a lot, even when i'm busy doodling (even if i don't give two plaps about it). Mainly it goes around my procrastination problems, if i can dedicate myself to paying full attention to what's at hand, i can succeed. Last year was better in that sense. I was much more focused than i was this year.

Why am I not? Because it's not important. Because according to everyone "in the industry" I've talked to, NO ONE uses a GUI in a server environment, at least as far as linux is concerned.

 

Also because...I just, have more important things on my mind.

Why am I not? Because it's not important. Because according to everyone "in the industry" I've talked to, NO ONE uses a GUI in a server environment, at least as far as linux is concerned.

 

Also because...I just, have more important things on my mind.

Same, maybe it's just my immaturity, but i don't think i realize how important a good grade is. I understand that the things we learn are useless, but my grade takes a toll of my stubbornness. (to clarify, A's and B's. Currently 4 A's and 2 B+'s.) but my mom wants me to be liek every other asian/indian.

HOW STUPID IS it that we have to do "notebook checks" in math where we give our notebooks to her so she can see that we took the notes she wants us to take? Not everyone learns the same way. This is how stupid common core is. Also, i never take notes in math as the class is 2 years behind my level (wrong placement in 7th grade). She expects us to copy the exact notes. So i just do the problems my own way (instead of drawing stupid pictures, i use formulas and thigns) and the teacher gets pissed and fails me each time. My grade will be a 99%, then the notebook check will drop it to a 70%.

For Latin I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm getting Cs and Fs all over. I just stopped caring even though I could be doing way better.

And I thought Austria was the last country where Latin is thought. I totally know what you mean. I'm just on my way to school and it's really likely that I'll get my Latin exam from last week back.... I have no idea what I did during this exam... ^^
