Our school makes us use these shitty databases that contain no relevant information about anything but plants. They make us use them because they are trustworthy. I don't, I go straight to google and the librarian gives me a look and says well you're gonna have to evaluate the source and I roll my eyes. And if I use Wikipedia which they discourage even though I've never found a single incorrect article so far, I give some random source with hardly any info because they don't care as long as it's evaluated.

Same ... Luckily with Literature I can write what I think ... Plus I have a great teacher that encourage us to think and feel ... Too bad she's retiring ... this year ... So sad , we were lucky to have a teacher like that , sure she criticised about us being wrong like really bad when we don't understand the character but she didn't give us molds and cliché to write , she gives us the free will of writing , as long as it stays on Topic ... 

 

I'm still salty about the final test I take ... I write how I would think I would feel If I were in the shoes of that character , and the teacher that grades it wrote : " Don't make stuff up . " WTF ? It's a poem about a women whose husband left for war ... You don't know exactly how she feel , only you can imagine , I'm sure if other teachers grade it i'll get better score , maybe I'm just arrogant and what the teacher said is true ... Before the test I showed what I will wrote to my friends and they said it was good ... More importantly , that's the part I'm most proud of because I wrote what I feel truly ... 

 

Math is okay I guess , still have challenging problems that I couldn't solved ... 

 

I did fine with Physics and Chemistry , although they will get harder next year ... 

 

Other subjects are memory based so nothing to worry about that ...

I'm so very sick of the way schools are run.

 

The tests are completely asinine, and test nothing more than your ability to memorize. They don't actually test your ability to solve problems, which is what employers need (whether or not they know it).

 

More than this.

 

I'm sick of their crusade against Wikipedia. They have a ban on citing wikipedia as a source, which means they don't even bother to check to see if the source is accurate. They just see the word "wikipedia" and then claim "not a legitimate source of information" even though it's accurate, even though every paper I've ever written included sources found via wikipedia, meaning they don't actually bother to check the information in those sources (they don't do their due diligence, yet I'm expected to?). They claim that wikipedia isn't moderated, when it is. The problem merely being that it is both under-funded and under-staffed. The real problem being that the internet could entirely provide an education that exists entirely outside of the currently established, over-priced education industry, rendering them and their businesses obsolete. Never mind the absolute fact that wikipedia can and will ALWAYS be more up to date than the text book. My current textbook lists a lot of information about physical hardware that is so out-dated that its not even funny. Apparently whoever wrote my Linux class textbook is only aware of HDMI and VGA, nevermind DVI and DP. And I've yet to hear anyone associated with ECPI mention SSD's instead of HDD's.

 

I'm so very sick of the blind and self centered teaching the young. I'm so very tired of answering questions that depend entirely upon my ability to remember things rather than my ability to figure things out, which I am actually quite good at, and when I can't, I do my best to find other people to help me figure it out, which is a skill in and of itself. Being able to efficiently find an answer to a problem (time is money) is important.

 

I'm not saying I want an end to education, I'm saying I want a challenge other than memorizing as much as possible.

Dude this is like the most coincidence i've ever had. My dad just had a rant about our schooling system and how our english teachers always require us to memorize rather than understand. Holy crap

Our english class is reading the outsiders atm. And we CAN'T Take the book home, which means we are all screwed for the test. How are you supposed to just blindly memorize this crap? An entire book needs to be memorized, like what madness is this? My dad is really pissed right now. 

Now on to math. Common core is bullshit. When a student is above the level of the class, and can even teach the teacher easier ways to solve equations, there's a problem. Why use stupid shapes and diagrams when you could use a simple formula to solve a problem? Also im with a bunch of stupid people in my class, why can't i skip ahead to a higher skill level class? Because common core has taken over standardized learning. This is absolutely shit

I've always hated math, never seen a point in requiring more than basic arithmetic, mainly because I see no point in knowing complex algebra and further forms of math, when we have calculators. And to preempt the people who respond "WHAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO A CALCULATOR!?" ......why would I need ridiculously complex algebra in a situation where I don't have access to a calculator.....Not to mention that calculators are often used to CHECK the work of humans.

This is why i'm going to a private high school. For the one reason that i can't bear with the stupidity of robotic teachers who dont give two shits about the knowledge of their students.

Thats not memorizing. That's practicing till you can fully understand the concept. Memorization is like in History class. But imo that's actually required because you can't remember each and every date in a war.

My mom was always critical of our education. She helped us alot. She taught me to read and write before I learned how to in school (she's an English major. And a damned good one at that). She always made sure we truly understood a concept rather than just memorizing it.

 

It's not holding information that is important, it's how you use it and how well you CAN use it.

Because teachers aren't actually teachers these days (for the most part). They do it as a job, a paycheck, rather than a calling or a passion.

 

A part of me misses getting kicked out of English class for reading books five times thicker than the rest of the class, while they struggled to get through lord of the flies in 9 weeks (took me two days. And I hated that book. Complete rubbish).

See my parents believe in repeating something till it's burned into your brain. It worked but it's too inefficient compared to solving questions with them. ex: multiplication tables
