as long as the router has an ethernet port yes, but if your house wiring is old then they may not be any better, if you get powerline adapters plug them directly into the wall and not into a  extension.

My wifi connection is very bad, and my desk is far from my router. Can power line work with any router?

yes as long as u have Ethernet on the router

What do you mean old? What type of wiring will be considered old? Is copper wire adequate?

i mean your electrical wiring, if the house hasnt been rewired for a long period of time say 30+ years then they simply wont work aswell as they should. they work better on good quality wiring and on a ring main. 

 

if its not your house than ask your parents if they know how old the house is and if its a radial circuit or a ring main.
