Can anyone recommend a decent power drill for wood work, putting together sheds for example.

It can't be too costly but not too cheap that it is basically useless.

Would prefer cordless but corded could work as well.

Thanks

My inexpensive black and decker one does alright.  it's 14 or 18v or something.

I find cordless really only works if you go balls deep and get extra batteries or additional tools that the batteries are swappable with.

what country are you in? and what is your budget? Milwuakee 12v fuel is a great drill for the price. I use my 18v fuel hammer drill every day at work and it holds up great.

I have this drill and it works great. The stock battery is kind of meh, but if you get either of the upgraded lithium batteries then its  not a problem. I've used mine to build a fence, drill holes in the frame of my car, drill through hardened steel, and a bunch of other things and it hasn't given me much trouble(the original battery was a weak link, but the upgraded batteries fixed that).

I feel the same, I prefer drills with cords.

Sure the cable and extensions might be a bit inconvenient at times, but the drawbacks from not using a battery are much worth it IMO.

Best case scenario you get a cheap cordless for small light duty things and a solid corded drill.

Cordless - Ryobi

Cord - Hitatchi

Used those brands for work for over four years. Never had one break.

They even got soaked in mud a few times. Still worked

Is it strong enough to go through walls and wood?

Also, do you know where I can get extra batteries?

I've only used it to drill holes in 1mm steel and 3mm plastic. But i think it can handle wood

They should sell extra batteries at the hardware store you buy it at.

Would it do for general house work? Going to be doing a lot of redecorating inside and out.

Great, probably will get another one then

It is a cheap power drill. It'll probably do what you ask of it. (And i think you have a few months of warranty if it doesn't)

This one will go through wood, masonry (brick + mortar, stone, etc), and metal. Has a 3/8" chuck (largest drill bit).

If you want something that is very cheap and go with the ryobi drills, I have had the black and decker ones completely fall apart on me before. My ryobi hasn't, but the battery failed me in less than a year.
