Hi, I have a Corsair Vengeance case.   I have two 120mm fans toward the bottom in front pushing in air.   The 120mm at the upper back fan is blowing air out.   I also have two 140mm fans on top of the cases blowing air out.   I have a question about the two 140mm side fans.   They align up to my 2x GTX 980s in SLI.   Should I have them blowing air towards the GPUs or pulling air out?  Most of the fans are Noctua.   I have a 1250W Seasonic PSU at the bottom that brings up and out the back so it shouldn't affect the temperature in the case (I think :-) ).

Thank you.

David

I just tried some different configurations on my side fan, I have a different case than you, but I noticed about 3°c lower temps with the side fans exhausting, not a very big difference. It will probably vary for you and if you do go exhaust I would probably flip the rear fan to intake to get more airflow and closer to positive pressure.

The reason I think it runs a little cooler if the side fans are exhausting is that the gpu pulls air from below in the bottom of the case and blows it out towards the side panel

edit: so if they are intake then they are fighting the airflow created by the gpu fans

(unless you've got blower style cards) it helped my cpu temps by about 2°c having them on exhaust as well. (Also negligible)

Its best to have it push air into the case but the side is not filtered so its gonna get dusty fast.

Thanks for the reply.   I actually bought fan filters that go in front of the fans.  Supposedly they help on dust.

Thanks for the reply.   I guess I should run some benchmarks and monitor the GPUs temperatures.

Yeah see what works best for you, I'd be curious to see what you end up with so let us know! Also good call on the filters. like the other guy (edit: melting point) said, it'll get messy quick without them

Edit again: if to I'd. Sorry I'm mobile

I know this is digging up an old thread (He's dead, Jim!) but I stumbled on this while looking for a different topic.

The general rule for side fans is: If you have blower style cards put the side fans on intake, this will help feed fresh, cool air to the cards. If you have circulating cooler cards put the side fans on exhaust, this will help suck out the hot air being blown out the side of the cooler directly at the side fans.

Just an FYI.
