AMD external events utility remains after switch to Nvidia card

Go to solution Solved by KayTees,

I just noticed that I couldn't alter settings in NV control panel, I am having the same issue as many others apparently. GFE is apparently holding a file open, and thus preventing NVCPL from doing things.

Anyhow I decided to start trying to find a way to fix this, like stopping GFE from launching at startup. Then in system configurator I found that the aforementioned process is running, and launching on startup.

I remember removing ALL AMD software from my PC, express uninstalled drivers, but still this process persists. A little googling showed me that it is apparently safe to disable, for some it even fixed a similar issue with CCC not saving settings, or resetting them after reboot.

I want to know if there is any way to uninstall it completely, I am rather certain that I have little to no need for AMD software on my system, especially if it isn't even an actual driver for audio or something like that.

Just found GFE in here too, I am going to stop that from launching at startup, I just want to change some settings, but I don't want to uninstall it.

Just download Display Driver Uninstaller. Run it, it gets rid of all AMD hardware.

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. SSD 128GB Sandisk Ultra Plus as my OS drive. HDD's  1TB  Seagate ST31000524AS its OEM, 3TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x 500GB WDC Blue (RAID 0)

If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

Would this also remove Nvidia drivers, or can I select the components it removes.

I'll need it to populate a list, so I can do my bidding.

The interface is something like this, you can pick which driver(s) you want to remove.

SNIP

Hopefully this will work, still worst comes to worst I'll need to use the Intel integrated to fix things... Atleast I hope I won't mess up my OS.

I'll be back, hopefully.

@KayTees

Thanks, I don't see AMD external events utility anymore, still can't change NV control panel settings, even though I stopped GFE from launching at startup...

I think I know what will do it...

Anyhow thanks for the help.

Just uninstall every driver including the nVidia ones. Reinstall from scratch :D

But first, I must play some games. I only wanted to change the power setting from adaptive to performance in NVCP, I want to see if it will help with OC:ing my 970.

I will need to redo my intel drivers though, using a secondary screen (VGA) crashes my PC very quickly if it uses the integrated, I don't understand why the older intel drivers worked so much better.

Can I redo intel drivers Wout resetting my screen resolution, and icon locations? I want to keep the GTX 970 as the display driver while I redo the intel drivers.

Leave your monitor plugged in, just do the Driver Uninstall again, your resolution would be really wonky, so when you start back up into Normal Mode, right-click the Desktop and change the resolution to what you had it on before. You actually don't need drivers to display anything, most 970's are plug n play. If it doesn't work, use Integrated graphics, plug monitor into the motherboard, go into BIOS, I remember theres something where you can turn off Integrated graphics.
