So I recently acquired Project Cars and dabbled a little in it. A friend of mine decides to tell me about the "Power Play" update in Elite Dangerous which adds a lot of content, but none of which will really get me playing again. I respond with " I need to be able to get out of my space ship". He responds well racing sims are the same. I continue to explain that my reason behind stating that is because Elite Dangerous puts you in a position of exploration and many more roles than just flying a ship. You bounty hunt, trade, and explore. A racing sim has fewer objectives/roles(just one) which justifies why you don't get out of your car. You're playing to experience the driving alone. Maybe I'm crazy.

How is project cars not a racing sim?

Topic - They are two completely different games I really don't see how they can be compared

regardless of PC being or not being a sim, can one compare a racing sim to a different genre of sim like Elite Dangerous? Am i wrong for wanting to get out of my ship like in SC but not caring in a racing one?

It's all personal preference.  If you want to compare them then do so.  You are never really wrong for having an opinion.  If you look look at Elite more of a space sim then yes one would want to get out of their ship.  If you look at Elite as a Flight sim then that's a little different.  Compare PC to FSX to Elite and determine what you actually want to think of Elite.

I don't think you are wrong, I have Elite, PC, and SC... I love my racing games and what not, and no I don't care about getting out of the car, all I want is a good experience with the mechanics and presentation with PC and others, where as Elite is a space sim that focuses on what you have already mentioned.... Currently Elite seems to be focused on the Larger pieces of space sim / exploration where as Star citizen is working from the smaller end to the bigger end. I think Elite and SC are comparable but definitely not Project cars.

Of course it's not wrong. You are entitled to your own opinion, but so is your friend.

I guess I think the same as you. Why the heck would I want to run around on a racing track in project cars? I wanna drive a vehicle.

But it would be cool to walk around on your ship/on a planet in Elite Dangerous..

they dont simulate many things properly, its not a bad thing its just that they wanted to cater to a larger audience so that they could make money. As a result there are a lot of things that dont work as they should like suspension or tyres or brake temps. Also if you lose control with a car you should be able to recover it majority of the time, you just cant in project cars. While close to a sim it just isnt there. I can go on but id be rambling and well i cant really change another mans opinion can I.

There are a number of things that you can compare. Being able to view your vehicles should be a thing in all vehicle based sims or games with vehicles altogether. When you see the love and effort that has gone into a car or ship model it deserves to be viewed in all its glory. Its down to opinion in the end, you are the consumer so you are right however the majority normally end up with what they want.
