I have always had an open headset (Gamescom 780), but i'm looking for a new gaming headset for under 100 dollars with a decent mic.

I have heard the hyperx clouds are really good, but they're closed headsets. Should I stay with open headsets (as i'm living alone anyways) or should I pickup the cloud and just get used to it?

I have the feeling it'll feel weird not hearing myself talk...

So... open or closed? :P

I am mostly fps-gaming & listening to music btw.

I would definitly stick to an open headset if you've used open headsets before. Otherwise it'll be very weird. I even got an headache by using a closed. So I also switched back to an open headset.

You should definitly have a look at Sennheiser's headsets, cause afaik it's the only company that actually uses good microphones for their headsets. I've never had any other headset with such good microphones. Even the 20$ headsets sound better than most 200$ "gaming" headsets.

The GameCom 780 is NOT an open headset....

How so?

If I am gaming or listening to music with the 780, people next to me and people outside the door can hear what I am doing + I can hear everything around me including the fans in my computer. Even if someone screams from downstairs, i'll be able to hear it.

Still not an open headset?

Also if you go to plenetronics website, you'll see that when you box "open headset" that the 780 will pop up....

I'm sure it doesn't isolate very well, but that does not make it an open headphone/set. :P

This is closed:

While this is open:

Exact same type, just one is open, while the other is closed.

You got the symptoms and causality backwards.

Example:

Premise: Old cars break down a lot

Fact: My car break down a lot

Is it a definite conclusion that my car is definitely an old car? Not quite.....

Linus made a video about open & closed.. he said that if you're able to hear yourself talk / other people talk in the same room, than it's an open headset.

If you can't hear yourself talk or hear your surroundings, than it's closed.

Listen carefully of his description of closed

And open:

The noise isolation is the main advantages, not what define a closed headphone.

Then i'm not sure if I want open or closed tbh...

The Hyper x cloud 2 is closed, but will I be able to hear myself? if not, is it even possible at all to hear yourself with closed headphones? that's my main concern.

Sorry if i'm repeating myself :P

I have never encountered any headphones, earphones, and such that completely render the wearer unable to hear him/herself. Try plugging your earholes with your fingers. You can add a bit of paper towel or cotton ball to add the isolation. Then try to speak. You can always hear yourself. That's because the mouth/jaw is a part of the same skull where the eardrums are. It's called bone conduction.
