Hi guys, I recently bought a new pc second hand that came with an aging Radeon 5970.

so first things first, I have two 23" 1080p monitors. Im looking at the GTX 970 or the 4GB GTX 960.  im just trying to get good value, if someone can guide me in the right direction that would be most helpful. I would consider an AMD card as well i just dont know what a good preforming amd card is since before this pc ive always had nvidia cards.  I would like the card to last me 3-4 years of 1080p gaming.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide.  My budget for a card is going to be about 400$ to 500$ canadian and i plan on buying the card in about 6-7 months.

please within the week of purchasing something because by then, amd's new cards would have released, and we would have new recommendations

Right now, the 970 is your best bet. However, if you plan on buying the card in 6-7 months, we can't really help, as the market will be completely different by then, with AMD's new series out, and Nvidia possibly releasing something else.

I would recommend waiting a bit, as both nvidia and amd are releasing cards fairly soon, and this could lead to price drops of the lower ends cards, possibly giving you a better deal.

Some of the new amd cards are re brands, so the 200 series might get cheaper.

6 -7 months time could see a whole new line-up of Nvidia never-mind the imminent 3xx line from AMD.

Performance to cost is always relative, please only decide when your ready to buy.

It's a bit of a slippery slope.

AMD are lazy, but they make good honest product.

Nvidia are more active, per se, but are money grabbing whores.

RIGHT NOW you can't go wrong with a 970, but seeing how Nvidia appears to be gimping previous generations through drivers...well...It's hard to say what's better right now

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it
