1. A broadband internet connection has a bit rate of 8Mbit s-1 when downloading information. What is the minimum bandwidth required to carry this bit rate?

Just confused to what this would be, I always thought that bandwidth was the 8Mbps. Or is it something else entirely?

I think bandwidth is another name for the speed of a connection.

@werto165

I'm not sure I fully understand what you're asking. Bandwidth, throughput, bitrate, etc are all the same; in this context. Bandiwidth is the proper term when talking about the full amount available. Throughput is what you get (including overhead, etc). Goodput is what is actually usable (throughput minus overhead, etc).

8 Mbps = 8,000 Kbps = 8,000,000 bps

8,000,000 bps = 1,000,000 Bps

1,000,000 Bps = 1,000KBps = 1MBps

1,000,000 Bps = 976.5625 KiBps = 0.95367431640625 MiBps ; in contrast a 1Gbps line (fiber optic) is just over 119MiBps or a DVD9 in about 1:12 seconds.
